Assignment 1 – The Leadership Discovery
Every leader exhibits different qualities. These qualities help leaders run companies, countries, governments and radical groups. Not all leaders lead groups that do the right thing. However, it is the difference in these types of leaders to make the world what it is today.
Strength Based Leadership (SBL) Assessment
People tend to look at negative and nonpositive things that others do in the world. Studies have been done that show teams work well together when there is a focus on people’s strengths instead of weaknesses. As strengths are learned, a person builds on those discoveries and can build on who he or she will be in the world. These strengths will also help that person grow as a leader. By building on one’s strengths, that person builds the blocks to be a good leader. This tool is perfect for those who have never seen themselves as a leader, as well as help them discover how to use his or her strengths to be the leader anyone would want to work with (Rath, 2008).
After taking this assessment, my strengths were belief, consistency, maximizer, input and connectedness. According to the assessment, belief is a strength because of understanding there is more to life than just material items. I take pride in making sure others around me have what is needed before knowing what they may need from me. It is important to be surrounded by those who recognize my talents and give praise for them. It helps to avoid those who criticize or get stuck on things that are done wrong, and enjoy the time with those who understand my skills and applaud me for those accomplishments. It also is good to use productivity to finish tasks that are given through the work day, as well as investing time into the tasks I know that I can accomplish to the best of my ability (Gallop, Inc., 2006-2012).
Input is a strength because it is important to ask for help with things that are needed. It is not beyond any scope to ask for help with a situation where more information is needed to help with a task. A strong person will ask for help with something that seems hard at that time. When I am faced with a challenge, it is not beneath me to ask for advice. It is smart to look to those who have more experience to help me help others, because those with more experience have different ways of dealing with certain behaviors that I may not have tried or would have a better chance of working (Gallop, Inc.,
