Introduction

National Skills Bulletin 2013 report, which was written with information gathered The information contained in this research project gathers together the most recently available data concerning; Science, Technology and Engineering. We believe that these sectors have contracted very modestly in contrast to others over the period 2007-2013, and in the future will be play a key role in the Irish economy. For this report we gathered data from a number of different websites. We found www.careersportal.ie and www.skillsireland.ie to be the most noteworthy. Both of these websites got their information from the Central Statistics Office. Throughout our research we discovered that employment in I.T. and engineering actually grew by more than 5% during the period 2007-2013 and science shrank only by 0.6% well below the national average of 3%. There is a significant shortage in these sectors particularly in I.T. and future career opportunities look promising.

Context and Problem space

The purpose of this study was to research the labour market in the areas of science, engineering and information technology. The theory is that having a career in any of these sectors is more secure and increasing in demand. Moving forward into education in the areas of science, engineering, and technology what will be the future job prospects of these areas. This study will look at all the relevant material to establish what the labour market trends are and predict what they will be in the future.

Methodology

Conclusion

To conclude our findings of Recent and Future demands of Science, Technology and Engineering sectors. We found that by using information from the Central Statistics Office that during the period of 2007-2013 employment in IT and Engineering grew while Science shrank by a small percentage. The purpose of this study was to see what career prospects lay ahead for anyone who chose to study a degree in these areas. This study is relevant to the DFS1 course we are studying at the moment and has been done to give students a greater understanding and a better piece of mind for the coming years. Our results are accurate and though the research phase was daunting we worked as a group to get it completed.
