There is an ongoing debate about whether or not people have the right To test on animals. On one side of the argument there are animal rights activists and on the other side of the argument there are many well respected scientists. Animal testing is to medical advances as fuel is to a car ,because it is constantly helping to drive forward. one thing is for certain peoples day to day lives would be very different than their lives are now. There would be no telling where we would right now without all of the medical advances that have come about thanks to animal testing. Animal testing is an necessary today because of the advancements in medical and surgical procedures, vaccines that prevent people from getting diseases , as well as medicine to cure diseases. Imagine a child died during a during a procedure just because of the simple fact that people did not have enough of a medical or surgical advancement. These medicines include; insulin for diabetes, drugs to treat viral ,diseases drugs for high blood pressure , anticoagulants , drugs to control transplant rejection, drugs for breast cancer, prostate cancer adult leukemia and lymphoma. All of these life saving medicines were created by animal testing. Just think of how many people's lives have been saved thanks to animal testing. One must remember that scientists who carry out animal testing are human to and most definitely do feel some sense of guilt using these animals for the sole reason to benefit mankind. However, “if there were good alternatives to animals that worked better or as well, for less money and hassle, scientists would use them” (Source D). Many believe that animals testing is wrong, but they must understand that at the current time there is no other option. According to the California Biomedical Research Association, almost every medical advancement in the last 100 years is a direct result of animal testing and research. The use of animals has become standard procedure in a wide range of testing and experimentation, including product toxicity testing, biomedical and veterinary experiments, drug development and testing, and education. Major advancements in treating and understanding chronic conditions such as cancer, cystic fibrosis, malaria, and tuberculosis, have been achieved due to animal research. Also, the development of pacemakers, cardiac valve substitutes, and anesthetics are also direct results of the testing and observation of animals. On the other hand, many people believe that animal testing is cruel and inhumane. In many laboratories animals are subjected to force feeding, food and water deprivation, physical restraints, and infliction of pain. Because the animals cannot protect themselves, many people argue that exploiting animals to better the lives of humans is wrong and should not be permitted.
In all, animal testing helps research science. Animal rights activists can argue their points until the end, yet in a matter of their life or their families lives, more than half of them would have to contest and say that they would rather have an animal be tested for something before their family member. Animal testing is a controversial topic, with two main sides of the argument. The side opposing animal testing states it is unethical and inhumane that animals have a right to choose where and how they live instead of being subjected to experiments. The view is that all living organisms have a right of freedom; it is a right, not a privilege. The side for animal testing thinks that it should continue, without animal testing there would be fewer medical and scientific breakthroughs. This side states that the outcome is worth the investment of testing on animals.

And although these animals may be considered protected under the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) they are still able to be tortured and mistreated in labs. On top of all this, there is absolutely no guarantee that results and data collected from these procedures are accurate. Our anatomic builds are similar in ways but not at all interchangeable. In conclusion, animal testing has been overused for too long. Nothing essential has been the outcome of it, and no scientific breakthrough has stopped anything from damaging us. The many, many animals are mistreated, many times killed. They need to begin to establish a more protective act, just like the AWA, however this time, it should strive to protect the majority of the animals used, so they can live safely. Finally, if we are able to find and develop successful alternatives to all animal testing, it might be gone forever. If all of these things can come together and make it happen, we may be able to see the day where all animals are treated ethically and with sheer, utter, respect.
For many years there has been controversy whether or not animals should be tested on between scientists and animal right supporters. It is very debatable if animals should be tested on when a cure for a disease could be found from testing on animals. From my own personal view I have a huge heart for animals, but if we can not find other alternatives, and is possible we can find cures for diseases, then animals may be used for research, but only for medical reasons.
