Reflective Essay About Writing

Reading has always been a passion of mine. Whether it was a fairytale picture book or a mystery novel starring Nancy Drew, I would devour the words off of the page. Reading soon became my home away home. Whenever I would pick up a book, I had to read the whole story before I got up to do homework or go to sleep. Unfortunately, writing was never the same. I still remember the first story I had to write for my class in the first grade. It was about my teacher’s missing pen, and how one of classmate’s had found it. Whenever I think about that time, I remember thinking that I loved drawing the pictures more than writing the book, and I was a terrible artist. Over time I have realized that writing is vital to every profession and every aspect of …show more content…

At first I thought that the hard part would be to find new information to talk about in the paper, or that I would end up rewriting the whole paper because it quite literally sucked. No, it was not that at all, my problem was that I wrote too much and on a paper that had a five page maximum limit, I ended up writing closer to seven pages. I also had a tough time trying to remind myself that this paper was not just about summarizing the different texts or the video, it was also about analyzing the papers and expressing my opinion on whether the text or video met my standards. This question stumped me, I was confused because I did not understand what more I could say. I will admit that this took me about thirty minutes to figure out. Later, I realized that I could have …show more content…

The one very important thing I have learned is to not be lazy and to write proper drafts of each essay. I learned that it is important to write multiple drafts of each essay because I would write sentences and attach them to the end of the paragraph so that I could finish and move on to the next paragraph. For example, I remember writing about the visual analysis essay and I remember talking about grasshoppers. I said that the narrator made the grasshoppers change color it was visually pleasing to the eye. This made the audience pay attention to the video. At first when I read that sentence I thought “Ehh, good enough.” But when I already printed that paper out I read it one more time and I was hoping that no one would notice that sentence. Luckily this was only the first draft of the essay and I made sure to go back and fix those type of mistakes. I have also learned that because I wrote multiple drafts of my essay my confidence level went up because I would think “Thank God, this draft was not as bad as the first one.” I also felt that it was very helpful when I asked my teacher or my friends to read over my work and tell me what I could improve on. This undoubtedly helped me in many
