This semester in CT 2000 has been informative in the ways that the people of our earth communicate. Everything we do alters into the conversations we have with people from our tone of voice to the shoes on our feet. There are 7 concepts that we touched on in the class over the past months and they are all keys to being an effective communicator. We began the semester with The Self and Communication, then went on to learn about or practice Culture and Communication, Verbal and Nonverbal Communication, Listening, Interpersonal Communication, Small Group Communication, and Public Communication. To learn about self talk and communication, our first assignment for the class was to give a speech about ourselves accompanied by and photo collage. …show more content…
If you listen, then you will be able to respond properly. To learn about listening we did an activity where we listened to multiple different songs and then responded to what we heard. After Listening to the songs we picked out the themes we thought they were trying to portray, how they made us feel, and the kind of rhythm and beats that the song had. This activity guided me in seeing that when talking to someone you can just listen to the words they say but you should pay attention to the context of the situation as well as the tones of their voice to get a clear understanding of what they are saying. You must listen or else communication will …show more content…
It was definitely an interesting experience. Before the assignment I’ve always been nervous when teachers bring up group assignments because I never like to have my grades in the hands of others. Fortunately I got put with a group who seemed like they would get the work done on time. I took on the role of the facilitator so that I could be in charge and make sure everything made sense and got done. It went well we got everything set up and dates for everything to be done set on the first day. I then set up online sharing so that we could have everything in one place. In the end everyone got everything done, maybe not exactly on time which made my job difficult, but it turned out ok. One of our partners had to make up his portion at another date, but it all worked out. I still would prefer never to have to do group assignments but this definitely was one of the better experiences that I’ve

..., and direct and control, conversations leads us to the multitude of methods we can utilize in teaching the art of communication. Each of us has a different foundation from which to start, but as we teach this art we will see the minds of our students expand as they develop more interest and take a more active role in their learning. These students will invariably have a richer, more fulfilling life as well as be more productive contributors in our world.
What is one of the most essential processes of everyday life that is used across all cultures, ethnicities, and people groups that ultimately is the key to any relationship? The answer is communication, or more specifically interpersonal communication, whether it is by talking, texting, writing, or any other medium the human interaction between two or more people is essential to surviving day to day life. As competency grows in interpersonal communication people are not only able to survive daily interactions but they become able to thrive in these situations and are able to develop quality relationships with different people or even work efficiently with people they normally would have nothing to do with. In this essay I plan to determine my competency in interpersonal

"The greatest challenge in life is discovering who you are. The second greatest is being happy with what you find."- Unknown. I have learned so much this year alone and taking an interpersonal communication class has broadened my view of myself and others. I am going to take you on a journey of what I learned and what I am continuing to learn. First I have chosen four chapters of the book that I think I have developed and learned the most from. From these chapters I picked the concepts and the theories that I have revised within myself. Starting with chapter two Considering Self, Perceiving Others, Experiencing and Expressing Emotions, Managing Conflict and last but not least Relationships with Family Members. I think that

I strongly believe that the class, HD341 Communication for Empowerment fulfill my goals in taking this class because it is giving me many opportunities to make connection with other classmates. I usually check in by sharing my stories at school, at work, and any issues that I am still concerned. Therefore, verbal communication is an area I frequently use in class to communicate with my peers as well as my professor. I also have active listening my classmate’s stories and have critical thinking to giving feedbacks to them.
I, myself have learned a lot along the way during this Interpersonal Communication class. I have learned how to communicate effectively with those around me by using the information along with tips presented within this class and textbook. In this paper I’ve chosen two communicative behaviors from chapters four and five to improve my skills in; they are making prejudice opinions/judgments toward others and listening.
Interpersonal communication is one of the significant skills while communicating with other individuals. It normally covers an extensive area and includes both verbal and non-verbal communication. Body language and facial expression may affect the accurateness of the message transmission directly. Interpersonal communication skills normally ensure that the message is sent and received correctly without any alteration thus improving the communication efficiency. Learning diverse aspects of interpersonal communication has greatly aided me in better understanding of what it consists. I am capable of applying the knowledge gained from this course to my personal experiences. This paper reflects on my personal experience in learning interpersonal communication.
Lots of people thinks that they know themselves very well; they have a right way of communication, they know how to listen and respond to others, even emotional intelligence. Is this what you thought? I did. However after I have done my observe behavior interview to my friends, I believe that self-reflection is important to everyone to understand and improve our own communication styles.
It is very important to understand that in everyday communication we are either the speaker or listener and it’s important that we do those jobs as best we can in order to have a healthy communication relationship. This activity was very useful because I got to reflect on my past successes and failures in my communicating strategies and in doing so I can improve and adapt to become a better communicator and listener. I believe that this assignment is very useful because it is real life experiences that may occur again and I can better assess the situation and use the appropriate communicating strategy necessary. This reflection will help me in my personal development by giving me situational experience that I will be able to correctly approach in and out of the
Communication is the key to partnership and humanity as a whole. As I work in a kindergarten through eigth grade school I come into contact with a lot pf people. I find communicating faily easy. As I had conversations with all personnel listed in the assignment I have realized that I enjoy talking with others.
.... I have a plan in order to maintain growth and development in all three types of communication. Primarily and most obviously, I must consciously practice all of the skills and knowledge I have learned. Secondly, not being afraid to ask for, and accept, constructive feedback from others will be a huge contributor to recognizing and following up with needs for improvement in any communication areas. Finally, sharing what skills and knowledge I have gained in this class with others will help to improve and maintain my own communication skills by surrounding myself with an environment filled with people who are also competent communicators. The more people who understand effective communication, the better the understanding between each person in society overall. I hope to follow through with all of these propositions to become an even better communicator in the future.
Before I had attended this module, my biggest aim was to understand how we communicate with each other and how we adapt our speech to fit the situation we are in. As I am combining Communication, Media and Culture with Film Studies, I wanted this module to help me build my confidence so that in the future, I can pitch my film ideas confidently. It was important for me to develop my communication skills as this would enable me to express myself clearly and concisely.
Interaction is a significant part of our daily lives. Oral communication with others is inevitable, and therefore it is crucial for us to acquire the skills to do so correctly. Aside from simply stating words or expressing ideas, oral communication serves various purposes. Oral communication allows an individual to express emotions, ideas, and feelings; it gives people the ability to empower, inspire, and motivate those who listen; and it allows people to share knowledge and traditions, as well as build their self-esteem. Oral communication is also useful in leading us to new discoveries, ideas, cultures, and perspectives (O’Neill). Thus, oral communication serves several different purposes in daily life; yet each of these purposes are connected to an even larger purpose. According to the textbook Communication: Making Connections, “Effective communication is critical to living successfully in today’s soc...
