Reflection Of Writing: My Understanding Of The Writing Experience

I selected to put essay #2 and #4 in my portfolio. I chose essay #2 because I enjoyed writing that one more than the first essay. It was more challenging for me to write essay #2 and I am proud of the way it came out. I struggled with every step of that essay, but it was the essay that taught me the most. During that essay, I learned about brainstorming, freewriting, and rhetoric. I loved writing essay #4! I learned so much about myself during that essay. During essay # 3, I had a hard time grasping the concept of citing sources and quotes. I am not sure why it was such a struggle. When writing the last essay, everything suddenly made sense. When I first saw that we had peer responses, I thought it was a bad idea. There were a lot of times where I felt like I was behind my classmates on compression of the writing process. Their insights showed me that some were struggling with the same things. The ones who were not struggling with the same thing had great tips and ideas and visa versa. I loved when we did peer responses. I was able to give some helpful suggestions to my classmates. But, where I got the most out of it was getting the peer responses. I have always been confident in my writing skills. I chose to take an online English course because of that confidence. I quickly learned that my writing was not even close to being what I had thought it was. This class has taught me valuable skills and strategies for writing. I never did more than one draft of an essay prior to this class. It was a hard process to understand and I saw no value to it. It is incredibly valuable! It not only helps with the progression of the paper, but it makes writing easier. I use to get caught up on making the first draft being the only draft. It took me four times as longer to write one page. I never paid attention to my run on sentences before –I didn’t realize they were a problem. As I went through each of the assignments, I saw many mistakes I was making. I was writing how I talk to someone face to face. I would read what I wrote, making the pauses I would make naturally. I learned that where I make those natural pauses, there should be a punctuation mark. usually am so happy that I have skills to combat my run on sentences! I think that anyone can master the art of writing. That doesn’t mean that all those who master writing will write a best-selling
