When Is Art Not Really Art? There have been many people over the past few years argue over the question of what art is. Several different interpretations as to what is considered to be a work of art are given daily since there are so many different types of artworks. It can be argued that the 20th century was a turning point in our understanding of what art is. Some people believe that anything and everything in the world is considered to be art, while others believe that art is much more than that in which it takes talent, and a creative vision to produce real meaningful art. Continuing onto the mid-20th century, the conceptual transformations that arose from new approaches to art led to a crisis of aesthetics, which was a manifested idea of what came to be art media or also known as digital art. It was said by Daniloff that, " I have a traditional view and prefer artwork that speaks for the artist or period" (Alexander Daniloff par. 12). Compared to the evolution of traditional art you can easily describe the development of digital art to be the same as traditional contemporary art. It was stated in the article that, "Yes, most definitely we can draw a line from traditional to contemporary art. Many of the same techniques are used..." (Ball par. 14). Unless it's a painting from the Renaissance, viewers tend to be easily offended when encountered by a naked body. M F Hussain attracted a lot of controversy painting nude images of Hindu Deities, specifically of Bharat Mata. He later explains, "I think the Indian culture is so rich that we have a unique position." and "I only give expression to the instincts of my soul." (par 1-3). These quotes show that his nude depiction of Deities comes from a genuine appreciation for the Hindu culture and he chose to show it in a different way. In another instance Craig Kelly a senator, calls an artwork in Parliament House appalling because the nudity doesn't seem suitable for the location. "The piece, called The Witches by Wendy Sharpe, is a painting of the witches from Shakespeare's Macbeth meant to capture their character shown in adaptations of the play" (Mata par 4). While the painting is not sexually graphic, Kelly was somehow put off by the piece. Many were surprised that anyone is still shocked by nudity and think that his mindset is that of the past.
