The collective history of humanity is one to be marveled with it’s complexity and relative shortness compared to the universe. As we add to this complex story, many of us will come across great challenges that tower above us like a tsunami of pain and sorrow. To overcome these massive obstacle we must follow those who come before us and analyse their successes and failures and form our own strategies in order to endure the imaginary tsunami of hardships. One must learn history in order make sure to not repeat the mistakes made in history. The first person who we will be analyzing is Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston. As a person living in probably one of the biggest terrors in human history known as the Holocaust as the nazi’s annexed Austria to when they attempted to take Russia, Anne will need some way to relieve mental pressure after spending more than a year with people that she can’t share herself with or stand being around. The way she unwinds in Nazi occupied Amsterdam is through various forms of recitation to distract her from the impending dangers of the fascist nazi regime looming throughout Europe as shown here “I craze for dancing and ballet at the moment, and practice dance steps every evening diligently . I have made a supermodern dance frock from a light blue petticoat edged with lace belonging to Mansa.” (Frank 136) Like many standard and typical young girls now, Anne relaxes through dancing. Through the physical action known as ballet, an activity that is still done today, that allows for Anne to relieve both mental and physical burdens that had been brought on by being keep in the Secret Annex for so long. Ballet and dancing allows Anne to move her body that must certainly be tired from being crammed in with a bunch of other people it while at the same time making it fun and interactive for her to relieve stress. As a former slave that returned to help the others trapped in the south to a fighter in the civil war to a fighter for civil and women’s rights. A women that has done a lot for America has certainly gone through a lot from the horrors of slavery to the backwaters of sexist U.S.A. what can we take from the life of Harriet Tubman. The part of Tubman's life that I wish to focus on and inspect is Harriet’s work on the underground railroad as it is the most stressful and extenuating as not only is she risking her life like she does when she sevres in the war but she is left in charge of non-combatants as a leader steering them through a hostile environment with their livelihoods or most likely their lives in her hands. The ways that she keeps calm in this time of distress isn't in any way that we have discussed in class but a new way that I’ll show “Harriet Tubman carried a small pistol with her on her rescue missions, mostly for protection from slave catchers, but also to encourage weak-hearted runaways from turning back and risking the safety of the rest of the group. Tubman [also] carried a sharpshooter's rifle during the Civil War.”(Clifford Larson 1) Harriet Tubman uses a gun in order to protect herself and her ‘cargo” to make her feel more strong and confident so she can feel safer in her journeys down into Maryland.
