America is such a diverse and different country compared to others. We have many cultures and many different personalities because of this racial profiling is a huge problem in the US. Law enforcement has been one of the many groups that been accused and caught up in these repeated prejudice actions. The police force as well as other groups need to take this problem seriously and start putting a stop to racial profiling.
Racial profiling had swept our nation it is the most conservation challenge in this new era. Though it has many forms of this practice, in law enforcement it is commonly associated with thinking a particular group or race are more likely to commit a crime than others. (Schmalleger 218) Profiling was originally used to help catch drug couriers attempting to enter the country. The U.S. Customs Service and the Drug Enforcement Administration developed a number of “personal indicators” that appeared to be the agency’s day-to-day law enforcement experiences, to be associated with increased likelihood of law breaking. Amongst these indicators were those who, spoke spanish, coming to the U.S. on flights from central and south american countries; being 18-to-32-year-old male; having short planned stay; and purchasing plane ticket with cash in the U.S. ( Schmalleger 218) Racial profiling came to attention to the public when police in New Jersey and Maryland were accused of of unfair treatment of African American motorists and they admitted that race played a factor in traffic stops. Racial profiling can take on physical, psychological, and behavioral characteristics. I can happen almost anywhere; it can happen while you are applying for a job, shopping at the grocery store, or while traveling. If you are hispanic, african, from the middle east or german you are considered a “minority” in america. If you are a minority you or a family member probably been a victim of racial profiling. It may not be fair in your eyes but in others its justice; thats why the government needs to put a stop to this controversy and racist actions. (Holbert and Rose
