When I sat down with Rachel Van Gundy to interview her about her life to learn more about her, I quickly learned that she had a lot of things interesting about her. The thing that stuck out the most about Rachel is that she’s very close with her mom. Her and her mom are best friends. Rachel shares almost everything with her mom. Her mom is her rock in life and even in school. Rachel wanted to become a nurse because she loves helping people. Helping people gives her the satisfaction and she strives to feel that. She has always been interested in the medical field which makes it easier for her to enjoy the stress of nursing school. Rachel also shows her caring personality through the answer she gave about what she would with some of the money if she won a million dollars. She told me that she would donate the money to the local Humane Society because she loves animals and wants them to live the best lives. Rachel would also donate to a children’s hospital. She believes that children deserve the best care, so the children can live a long, happy life. On Rachel’s down time she loves to hang out with her friends. Because of the wealth and power that surrounded her family name, Rachel became the victim. If not for all the drama caused by owning much of the land and her family flaunting their fortune, the community of people ready to solve their problems or vendettas by crying witchcraft may have overlooked Rachel. For this assignment I had the pleasure sitting down with Emily Petermeier and getting an insight on what the real nursing world is like. Emily graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing in May 2015, and got a job at Fairview East Bank Hospital. This interview really helped me understand what it is like to be a new nurse and the dedication that I have to have going through nursing school and throughout my career. ...the beginning, she seemed as if she does not want the baby and wanted to get rid of it but within time she grows up a little by little and realizes she really cares about him. Between these two characters, they both share two characteristics; pride and self-confidence. They show it in many ways from defending the families name to the ideal of power within sex. In the end, both of these characters show great strive to get what they want. Serena is a cold hearted women. All she cares about is herself; she comes first. As for Rachel, because of her son, she puts Jacob first and herself second. Rachel knows what it is like to show love or compassion towards other things in her life; Rachel has good priorities. All Serena has is hatred building up inside of her that she cannot control.
Nursing, for me, is more than a profession, it is a journey where I learn continuously about life changing events and miracles. Touching the lives of others or being touched by other’s story is an experience one can’t describe, only endure. Nursing is a profession of integrity and compassion, and it is the most trusted professions due to our commitment towards our patient. The quality of a good nurse is they should be caring, sensitive, kind and respectful towards their patient, and I believe I possess all these qualities that have contributed to me in my successful career of nursing. Working at Cleveland Clinic, I got a great opportunity to work with a group of doctors and coworkers who have the same mission in life and job as mine; “Put the patient first”. Making a positive impact on patient’s life, big or small, noticed or unnoticed, gives me a great sense of accomplishment and makes me proud to be a nurse.
My reasons for selecting a career in nursing stem directly from my desire to help our prospering population and community. I have always wanted to become a nurse since I was a little girl, seeing both of my grandmothers working in a hospitals and always helping everyone in need.
