“Are quilts art? That has been a question reverberating around the quilt, craft, and art worlds for at least a century. The answer is not as simple as yes or no, and the debate concerns much more than new quilts versus old or formally trained artists versus domestic home sewers.”(Quilts as Art). This is a question many people ask themselves, but in order to answer the question, some background information needs to be established. To start with, the word quilt comes from the Latin word, culcita, meaning a stuffed sack. With that knowledge, many speculate that quilting has been around for much longer than things like the light bulb or the steam engine. But as time went on, and technology evolved, people started to move, many into america as early as the 1600’s. Consequently, America began to grow, expanding westward year after year.
