Qualitative Case Study: Successful Talent Development In Soccer

1318 Words3 Pages

A research design incorporates different elements of analysis with the most logical method. There are many different approaches to a research study, and the appropriate course depends on the nature of the research. The design is the blueprint to the overall structure on how the method is applied. The method describes the techniques used to conduct the research. Knowing the data that the study should collect is fundamental in determining how the investigation is executed. This paper explores the importance of research studies on human lifespan development, specifically between two articles, Successful Talent Development in Soccer and Rational Thinking and Cognitive Sophistication: Development, Cognitive Abilities, and Thinking Dispositions. …show more content…

A case study design works well for this type of analysis because it can provide an understanding of the effects over time as well as give insight into social and cultural changes. Case studies are also relevant when extensive information on social behavior is sought after. The case study, Successful Talent Development in Soccer (2013), collected data by studying cohort groups and examining lifespan development. Furthermore, case studies disclose the complexities of real-life situations, which may not be otherwise uncovered through experimental or survey research. The groundwork is a holistic approach, which helps identify the complex risk factors in a situation as well as pinpointing any real issues (Creswell, 2012). The article, Rational Thinking and Cognitive Sophistication: Development, Cognitive
Abilities, and Thinking Dispositions (2014), describes the most common research design used in their study, which is a correlation. Correlation explores the relationship between two or more variables through a correlational analysis. The intent is to determine what degree the variables are related if they are related at all.

The strengths in using the questionnaire or survey method are the simplicity of collecting the data. The poll or survey method can be an inexpensive way to conduct research.
