The Pyramids of Giza were not Built by Aliens Out of the first Seven Wonders of the World, only one is still standing: the Pyramids of Giza. This miraculous feat of architectural ingenuity erects upwards of 450 feet, has over two million blocks that range from two to thirty tons, and weighs all in all over five million tons, yet has been able to withstand the test of time. The Egyptians did so by creating their epic memorials in the most sound shape found in nature, the pyramid. With its wide base and narrow top it is virtually impossible for acts of nature to topple it. There are numerous variables and questions that go into finding the methods used to perform the acts of building the pyramids: getting blocks of limestone when their …show more content…

The Pyramids of Giza are individually made of around two million limestone blocks that can weigh as much as twenty tons. In order to obtain and shape limestone, which is a sedimentary rock formed by either a chemical deposition or the shells of small creatures, into a rectangular prism, they used a process called quarrying. The definition of quarrying is, “the business, occupation, or act of extracting useful material” (Ideology). The process used by the Egyptians was to pry the massive blocks out of quarries and shape them to the correct size. In a video uploaded by It’s Okay To Be Smart, Joe Hansen, the writer of the show, stated, “The only metal these Egyptians had access to was copper. That’s a pretty soft metal, but when a slurry of sand and powdered rock is poured as an abrasive, even copper tools can cut limestone.” (How the Pyramids Were Built (Pyramid Science Part 2!)). This quote shows how Egyptians were able to cut material as hard as limestone with the brittle metal available to them. The video also states how the Egyptians transported limestone to the sites of the pyramids, “...sand has an interesting property, wetting with the right amount of water makes it remarkably slick. A team of ten workers can easily pull a one ton sled” (How the Pyramids Were Built (Pyramid Science Part 2!)). This explains how the Egyptians could transport heavy limestone and do it without the need of an absurd amount of
