Mallows Maldepena Gabales Why are you pursuing a career as a nurse? It would be dishonest to claim that I wanted to be a nurse when I was a child. Like many young girls, I wanted something easy, glamorous and care-free. However, the realities of the world, the need for a better future and the challenges of being a single parent have changed my career goals. I am pursuing a nursing career for both personal and professional reasons. Some of my friends are CNAs and caregivers who often talk about their jobs, what they do and how much they enjoy caring for the residents. I decided to first become a CNA, now I work as a caregiver. To this day, I think it’s the best career decision I made. I am developing a strong passion for helping others. As a caregiver, I assist the residents with daily living activities while being a supportive companion. I find this personally very rewarding and mutually beneficial. …show more content…

I met some nurses and doctors who often go the extra mile to help others. I saw a nurse once stay late to accommodate a working parent and a doctor who paid for a homeless person’s prescription. I personally want to become this kind of valuable person who gives back to the community. When we give back to others, they give back to us in different ways. The other personal reason I want to become a nurse is for the life skills I will learn. Nursing is a technical science that teaches us how to treat injuries, cure illnesses and save lives. Nurses know how to analyze pathology, understand diagnostic tests and respond to medical emergencies.
