This paper will discuss the interpretation of Psalm 2. The paper will concentrate on the literary structure and the central message of Psalm 2. The big picture in Psalm 2 is about the coming of the Messianic rule of Jesus Christ as the King. This Psalm gives the reader theological positions that focus on Jesus Christ that come to rule the earth as the undisputed sovereign King. The primary theme of Psalm 2 is about blessed are those who take refuge in Him (2:12).

The Literary’s Structure of Psalm 2 The literary structure of Psalm 2 consists of four stanzas with three verses for each stanza. It made by combining two successive lines in one group that commonly known as bicolon and a three lines that becomes a distinct unit referred to as tricolon. Using the verse system, the breakdown of the stanzas would be; The first stanza opens with the rage of the nations against the Lord and his Anointed One (2:1-3), followed by the second part of the stanza about the feedback from God for their defy acts (2:4-6). God did not have a body that makes Him able to laugh at their foolishness physically. This imagery expresses the feedback from God that He is not offended by what they are doing. Another imagery that the author uses is the phrase “you will dash them to pieces of pottery (2:9).” This imagery is not directly mean the action of God where He is physically breaking the body of the people into pieces, but it is talking about how broken their condition would be if they are still stubborn and stood against the Lord and his Anointed One. Instead, their situation will become like a pottery that has been broken into pieces and it could not be repaired anymore.
