Thank you for your participation and I would like to add to the discussion some facts that I believe could be considered as pro and cons of Obamacare. for instance, as a pro, Obamacare brought healthcare accessibility to the population with Pre-existing conditions and patients with chronic disease, so Insurance companies cannot deny their medical care. A young adult also can have access to parent’s health insurance up to 26 years old which is really helpful for individuals that are still working their career path or unemployed. Furthermore, The Affordable Care Act is Providing preventive care by adding essential benefits to individuals who need screening test, vaccinations among others and at no cost. To begin, one of the common reasons cited in support of Obamacare is a decrease in health and gender-based discrimination by insurance companies. The changes in requiring all Americans to have affordable coverage, as well as changes in how insurers can set premiums, will allow those with medical conditions and disabilities, as well as women who need pregnancy care the ability to have healthcare insurance without having to potentially be denied coverage or forced to pay a much higher than average price (The Pros and Cons of ObamaCare 1).

The topic that I am choosing to do is on Obama Care. I chose this topic because the idea of the government forcing people to obtain insurance is wrong in my eyes. I am interested in analyzing the validity for what has been said about this topic in order to increase my understanding about Obama Care. I am not an expert when it comes to Obama Care. I know that this is an insurance that is being provided through the government for the general public. I have read that President Obama never initially read the whole bill itself. I also know that people who cannot afford it, but make too much money to qualify for Medicaid are being heavily encouraged to get this insurance. Some of the common knowledge that I have found that the general public has about this subject is that some people are for Obama Care and think that it is a wonderful idea and that there are some people that are dead set against Obama Care. Younger adults, specifically college age and individuals that are in their twenties tend to be for Obama Care. The insurance is being forced upon individuals that may or may not want it. It also seems as though that the insurance being offered is pretty generic in terms of coverage. Some of the questions that I have that I believe will aide me in writing this paper would be the following: What are the pros and cons of Obama Care? What are the thoughts of Obama Care with the people of the government? As well as what are the basics of Obama Care?
Just mention the word "Obamacare" and a heated debate will start right away. The legal name of Obamacare is "the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, PPACA" (Tate 1). The law has over 2500 pages and many have not read the entire law (Tate 12). Democrat Nancy Pelosi made an infamous remark back in 2010 stating "that Congress '[has] to pass the bill so you can find out what's in it'"...(Roff). This law was signed in March of 2010 and has a 54% disapproval rating among Americans today (Amadeo). The main goals of the law are to offer healthcare to all Americans, stop the rising costs of insurance, increase the number of "consumer benefits and protection", and solve several other healthcare concerns (Tate 13-15). What are some of the pros and cons of PPACA, and is this law good or bad for our country at this time?
First and foremost is the fact that it has provided upwards of 32 million Americans with some type of health insurance coverage. With the passing of the law, all insurance companies are now required to cover ten essential health benefits, including but not limited to mental health, addiction and chronic diseases. This saves money because these are the very people that would end up in the emergency room for treatment if they do not have access to healthcare. It has removed the stigma of preexisting conditions and now ensures insurance companies will no longer be able to deny coverage because of medical conditions and the insured can no longer be dropped or experience increased premiums should they develop a catastrophic illness. The lifetime and annual limits on coverage were eliminated which will help those who encounter tragic injury or illness; possibly preventing them from bankrupting themselves trying to pay for life saving measures. Children can now remain on their parent’s policy up to the age of 26. This alone has supplied around 3 million people with insurance coverage that they didn’t previously have (Shaffer, 2013). Health care reform gave each individual state the opportunity (although not all exercised this right) and option to expanded Medicaid rosters, making the threshold 138% of the Federal poverty level (Chang & Davis, 2013). Whether we are in favor or opposed to the Affordable Care Act, it is important that we consider how it affects us and the world surrounding us. First of all, I find useful to mention what the Affordable Care Act (also known as ObamaCare) is and how it differs from any other healthcare acts. The Affordable Care Act provides Americans with health security by putting in place health insurance reforms that are supposed to expand coverage, hold insurance companies accountable, guarantee more choices to choose from, lower healthcare costs, and eventually enhance the quality of care for all Americans. It differs from other healthcare insurances because patients with pre-existing conditions can now be eligible to receive treatment and prevention of further illness.
Medicare and Medicaid are one of important government programs. According to Medicaid.gov site, there are more than 4.6 million low-income seniors enrolled in Medicare and about 8.3 million people that are enrolled in both Medicare and Medicaid. Anyone that enrolled with Medicare and limited income and resources are eligible to get assistance paying for their premiums and out-of-pocket medical expenses from Medicaid. Not only does Medicaid cover additional services, but, services covered by both programs are first paid by Medicare with Medicaid in the difference up to the state’s payment limit (Medicaid.gov, 2015) .
Just a few years ago the Affordable Care Act otherwise known as the ACA. The Affordable Care Act is also famously know as Obamacare. This has not been very good for the American people in several ways. It has caused the people of this great nation a very difficult time in signing up for this new healthcare, everyone’s insurance prices have risen, people have been losing a lot of hours at work, and if people decide not to have insurance they can be fined. The way to get rid of all of these problems is to get rid of the Affordable Care Act all together.
The Affordable Care Act benefits to reconstruct the healthcare system by giving more Americans access to superiority, reasonable health insurance and supports to curtail the growth of healthcare spending in the U.S. People with health insurance will have access to a number of new benefits, privileges, and defenses which ensure that they can get treatment when they need it. This helps over 32 million Americans afford health care who could not get it before. It not only helps the consumers but also our budget and economy on a more stable path by reducing the discrepancy by more than $100 billion over the next ten years. Since there are millions of people with health insurance, it will also increase the demand of healthcare provider as more jobs will be open which will help our economy (Mowrey, 2013).
Health care reform was a major part of President Obama’s campaign when he was first running back in 2008. The primary objectives of the reform are to provide healthcare coverage for all uninsured Americans and decrease the costs of healthcare services and coverage.

Obamacare is what America needs, and is the middle ground between a single payers system and a public option system. Without Obamacare, the two opposite options I have given would be too extreme and not everyone would agree on them. It would cause controversy in America, and that is the opposite of what we need in this health care crisis. It would also not help the health care crisis grow and replenish itself to the standards that us citizens expect from the government. In order for America to stay on track to rebuild the health care system, we need to keep going in the same direction and expand our horizons by keeping and adding on to the Affordable Care Act so every citizen is content.
Since Obama came into office in 2010 the people of the United States have dealt with an awful system of “health care.” I believe that eliminating Obamacare completely will cause the biggest change in our country. Obamacare was a federal law that was put in place to supposedly create easy access to health insurance for U.S. citizens of all race, sex, age, and economic status. The Affordable Care Act, as it is otherwise known as, had many flaws though. Our country needs help and one of the most effective ways to achieve this is by repealing Obamacare and ridding ourselves of the individual mandate, because no one should be required to pay for insurance if they do not want to or do have the funds for it, but would rather be buying food for their children.
As of 2014, all Americans are required to have healthcare insurance and there are many people who do not agree with paying for health care insurance. However, I believe that The Affordable Care Act should remain available and required for everyone who either does not think that they need it or if there are others who feel that they do need the care. There are so many benefits on receiving health care insurance as well as some downsides. The Affordable Care Act was signed and passed by President Obama on March 23, 2010.
