This video has found many impacts of this type of psychology. They said that the outcomes of positive psychology include the rise of intelligence, creativity, and energy level. “Small Happiness” is a documentary about women of a Chinese village. The title derived from the quote, “To give birth to a boy is considered a big happiness, to give birth to a girl is a small happiness.” It covered a variety of topics such as how women view their bodies, marriages, and families. From the documentary’s interviews of women of different ages, we can see although the tradition of male dominance in the Chinese society remains, the lives of rural Chinese women have changed significantly in the last half century.
Past, Present, and Promise 'Past, Present, and Promise'; is the first volume in the twenty-six volume set. The video begins by introducing the series and going over basic definitions such as the definition of psychology. The video continues on by giving an example of a disorder that psychologists may work with- multiple personality disorder. A woman who has an extreme case of this disorder is introduced. At times she believes she is a scared seven year old girl named Carol, and at other times she has a coarse personality of a man named Devan.
Martin Seligman has an interesting view on Psychology’s “Good, not good, and not good enough” aspects. I started to understand Seligman’s thought process on positive Psychology as each aspect broke down, for example; the “good” aspects: the disease model and fourteen treatable disorders. Positive Psychology’s benefits shows that the disease model usage helps treat conditions like the now fourteen treatable disorders. I would have to agree with Seligman’s three happy life types. At the end of the experiment I will complete the last two steps in the scientific process. I will analyze the data gained and will formulate a conclusion. I don’t think much research has been done of the effects of Positive Psychology on those people with a higher than average level of happiness, since the catalyst for this research came from the desire to augment pathological treatment for depression. In the United States 20% of the adult population report that they are living a flourishing life (Keyes, 2002). However, a high percentage reports feeling as if they are ‘‘stuck’’ or ‘‘want more’’ and are yet not diagnosable with a mental disorder (Fredrickson, 2008). Because happiness has been found to be the source of many desirable life outcomes e.g. career success, marriage, and health, it is of importance to understand, how languishing individuals can reach this ideal state: How can well-being be enhanced and misery reduced (Lyubomirsky, King, & Diener, 2005). Over the past decade, research in the field of positive psychology has emerged to provide evidence-based methods to increase an individual’s psychological well-being, through so called positive psychology interventions (PPI’s). PPI’s are treatment methods or intentional activities used to promote positive feelings or behaviour. PPI’s vary from writing gratitude letters, practicing optimistic thinking and replaying positive experiences. A meta-analysis of 51 independent PPI studies demonstrated significant results in the effectiveness of PPI’s increasing well-being (49 studies; r = .29) (Sin & Lyubomirsky, 2009).

Positivity by Barbara L. Fredrickson is a self-help book built on thorough research of Positive Psychology. This book was very influential and allows one to do self-assessment. It holds various concepts which deeply refer to positivity vs. negativity.
Psychology plays a very important role in organisations today, in particular, positive psychology. It can be noticed across all industries in today’s workplace, from the IT sector to factory work, and it affects all levels in an organisation. Positive psychology can have an enormous impact on organisations. Everything from moral to employee turnover can be drastically affected.
Positive thinking can be a useful, powerful tool to get through difficult situations that life can bring and it can also be used to help improve the overall quality of one’s life. Those that believe in the power of positive thinking, such as motivational speakers, life coaches, and self-help gurus, claim that taking an optimistic approach to life has shown great benefits. Some of the benefits that believers of positive thinking claim to experience are more stability during stress, physical and psychological well-being, recovery from illness, and healthier relationships. However, there are those that have a different view of the power of positive thinking. They argue that it does little to improve health, the quality of life, or difficult situations. Some believe that too much optimism can pose more harm than good and that having a more negative approach is, at times, the better route to take. Studies, research, and analysis of personal experiences from experts on the power of positive thinking has been done to examine the benefits and potential harm of positive and negative thinking.
The article also explains that at the individual level, positive personal traits are the focus. Seligman, I think, makes a great point when he talks about the shift of thinking in the field and the focus of treating individuals in a more holistic approach. While an individual may be functioning poorly in their life with jobs or drugs, there is more to the story. Focusing on an individual’s strengths and building up the skills or traits that the individual possess is essential for improving lives. The idea of positive psychology reminds me a lot of the Recovery Model that I learned from another course. Instead of focusing on deficits, individuals are treated based on their strengths and ways to bring satisfaction and meaning to an individual’s life despite their disorder or condition. Thinking about the whole topic of positive psychology makes me what to implement this into whatever career I find myself in. This approach could be applied to behavioral techniques used to treat mental illness. If more people were aware of the power of concepts within positive psychology, I believe we could see a large impact in

If one is able to find something good about every situation they encounter, then their overall life experience will be positive. It explains that one’s mindset determines the outcome of a situation, including how well they get along with people around them. Martin Seligman is a psychologist and author who designed the PERMA model with five core elements for positive psychology. The PERMA model can be applied to individual lives, societies, and corporations
