Positive Effects of Ethical Business Creeds
A company’s basic beliefs, controlling values, ethical commitments and plan to promote sound ethical practices are all fundamental for the success of the company financially and ethically. To avoid the billion-dollar loss, irreparable damages and criminal charges Enron encountered, we will institute and abide by these ethical business principles. First, we must identify and value our stakeholders, which are the employees, surrounding community, investors, employee families, business partners, etc. Everything after that evaluation will lead to a fair and equitable decision. If I maintain my commitments, then I will have no choice but to make the correct decision. These ethical commitments are based from my religious morals through Christian perspective. Whether I am at work, interacting socially, or at church, each of the commitments listed will provide an ethical foundation. The bible states in 1 John 4:4 “Greater is he that is in me, than he who is in the world.” Yes, as humans we are in the world. However this does not mean we are of the world and its secular culture. We have to get everyone to buy in for the greater good of the company. It all starts with the leadership of the company, including the board and CEO. I will set in place a system of checks and balances that will help avoid conflicts of interest and single-minded decisions. The promotion of sound ethical practices begins with the company’s dedicated and committed employees. They are the backbone of the organization and the true fabric of our success.
Upon hire, each employee will receive the mission statement, rules and guidelines, and watch a short detailed video regarding positive ethical practices in business. Each employee will then sign a waiver stating that he or she understands and will comply with the rules set in place. We will post federal rules, safety guidelines, and competitive goals. I will encourage all employees to attend the annual board of directors meeting to voice their opinion or make comments for improvement. Annual training programs will be set in place for ensure that employees skills and development are up to date. Position vacancies will be posted internally first and then externally. This will allow our current dedicated employees to have a preemptive advantage for the position before we hire someone
