Police brutality is a very complex incident that has been occurring for many years. It is not an easy task to address, but there are a few techniques being implemented to decrease the number of cases of police brutality. There is no way of completely eliminating police brutality, but there are ways to help condense the act. In order to understand how to prevent police brutality, one must first understand the importance of preventing it. Black Americans are more likely to be a victim of police brutality than any other race. It is a controversial topic that needs to be aggressively addressed; some of the most effective techniques is the use of body cameras, dash cams, and protests by the citizens. This has been an ongoing issue that has not received much attention from those who have higher power. According to debate.org fifty-six percent of the people have agreed that police brutality is a problem, and forty-four percent disagree with police brutality being a problem. It appears to be a problem, because the polices are supposed to protect the citizens and if they’re not doing their job, then who will the citizens trust to protect them. There needs to be more punishment given to officers for brutally attacking a citizen. If an officer appears to be using too much force or violating any other law while apprehending someone they should be put on probation for a certain amount of time. According to the website, CopCrisis, in 2014 the police brutality rates were 1,297, in 2015 it was 1,307, and as of April 18, 2016 there has been 368 cases and 6,613 cops were involved in the cases. That is only the number of cases that has been reported, there is most definitely more cases that has not been reported to the media yet. As a result of the many deaths and abuse to citizens by the police officers, the body cameras and dash cams came into effect.
