Within the last two years, conflict amidst the Middle East has grown significantly. Whether the conflict be internal or a result of foreign countries, it has accumulated into copious amounts people displaced from their home country and forced to migrate in search of safety. These people are known as refugees and are desperately looking for places to call their home. Whether or not countries should take in refugees has been a prominent issue within the status quo, and as result of this current crisis, countries ought to allow refugees in until conflict in their home country is resolved. This western influence is seen through military aid and western technology. Jesse Rosenfield a Canadian reporter who is based in the middle east makes an excellent point through his article in The National titled, “Europe must assume its responsibility for refugees”. He states that the civil war in Syria was majoritally a product of foreign weapons and interference. Afghanistan and Iraq’s devastation is a result of Europe and America’s war, and Iraq’s problems are a result of U.S. and its European allies who invaded and occupied it for over ten years. When we occupied these countries, we attempted to support rebel forces who were trying to combat the corrupt government with guns, trucks, and training. Countries such as France, Canada, Britain, and the U.S. in part fueled these rebellions and caused disorder in middle eastern countries, therefore ought to take responsibility for the refugee situation they …show more content…

In fact the majority of refugees are fleeing from terrorists! These people are attempting to escape from chemical attacks, bombing, barbaric violence, and civil/regional war. Denying the entry of millions into a safe environment based off the chance of their being a terrorist amongst the group is unhinged. Additionally, in order for one to be accepted into any country, they must pass a thorough screening process designed to weed out any potential threats.
One opposing refugees may claim that accepting Syrian refugees is dangerous, because there may be terrorists and ISIS operatives mixed into the refugee population. However, the U.S. and other countries should be focusing on the harms to American national security that would occur if these refugees are left in camps where they can easily be radicalized. By accepting refugees, we reduce the likelihood that refugees turn to terror as a means of survival, and save millions of innocent
