Do you want your dog to die? What if it bit someone, then how would you feel? Would that bite change your opinion on your dog? The law says it should. There are around 4.5 million dog bites each year and 850,000 of those people require medical treatment. The law recommends that each dog is euthanized for biting someone, which is the act of putting an animal to death or allowing it to die by withholding extreme medical measures, but is it really necessary? According to Dog Bite Law, 850,000 of those people required medical treatment, the other three million six hundred fifty thousand dogs shouldn’t have to be euthanized for what they did. When a dog bite is reported on, it is almost always a Pitbull or a Rottweiler, why? Because they are stereotyped! Those two breeds are not the only breeds that bite, but because of the stigma put on them put on by humans, they are nearly always the ones to take the fall. This stigma has spread so far that many innocent Pit Bulls and Rottweilers, along with many other breeds such as Mastiffs, Chow Chows, and German Shepherds are subject to (BSL) Breed Specific Legislation. That is a law which regulates how your dog looks. If the “doggy police” believe your dog could be a threat to society based on how they look, they have a right to put them down. Now you may be asking yourself, what happens if my dog bites someone? Unlike Harambe, the famous gorilla, who on May 28, 2016, was shot and killed after a young boy climbed into his cage at the zoo and the zookeepers believed the best option was to shoot the gorilla, your dog will most likely not be euthanized right away. If your dog bites someone, you will go to the court, and you can have the opportunity to plead that your dog is innocent and doesn’t deserve to be euthanized. If you win your case, the judge will decide whether or not the dog will stay with you or be sent to a dog
