Recommended: How child development is influenced by poverty and deprivation

Child labor has been going on for decades and it has been problematic worldwide. It keeps children from attending schools and working at places where they face illegal, dangerous, and unhealthy work conditions. The International Labor Organization is a United Nation organization that deals with labor issues. They analyzed about 215 million children from ages 5 and 17 who work in unhealthy environments and dangerous regions around the world. Moreover, children are forced to work because their families are poor and need the extra income to have a normal life. Also, when their children begin to work, they do not have to work as hard. As of 2016, children in Iraq do not have the time to play because they are too busy working and supporting their family. According to UNICEF, United Nations Children’s Agency, Iraqi children need to work due to the crisis that has engulfed the nation. Abdul Karim, who works in Iraq, tells his friend he wants to be able to go to school. Unfortunately, he cannot because his family lost everything when his father died in the war so he was the only one who could support the family. In a perfect world, only parents would work, and their children would be educated. The government doesn’t help the kids stay away from dangerous places to work. “Rich children and most children in wealthier countries spend more time learning to be adults, playing, and going to school” (Ennew 4).
