Recommended: Future ambition of agricultural engineer

Have you ever thought about what you are going to be when you grow up? This is a question that I am sure most of us don’t enjoy being asked. With this question there are many things to consider. How much will it cost to get the education that will be required? Will I really like the career that I have chosen? Will I even be able to get a job? Whatever the question may be, have you ever considered a job in agriculture? When I had first heard about “jobs in agriculture” I thought mainly about farming, and didn’t want to be a part of that. I wanted to be a rich and successful business owner. However, as I have learned, an agricultural job isn’t just farming but there is an entire range of jobs and opportunities in the agricultural field. In …show more content…

However, there is another issue, as there is a demand for agricultural jobs, there is also a demand on agricultural educators who would be able inform those people who don 't know about this crisis. In 2014, 992 agricultural education teaching positions were open nationwide. There was a 411 agricultural teacher deficit, 96 positions went unfilled, 183 programs were filled with an alternatively certified teacher, and approximately 67 agricultural programs were closed. In FFA opening ceremonies the FFA advisor’s part states “The owl is a time-honored emblem of knowledge and wisdom. Being older than the rest of you, I am asked to advise you from time to time, as the need arises. I hope that my advice will always be based on true knowledge and ripened with wisdom.” (Official FFA Manual) The advisor plays a big role in helping to better their chapter, students, and those who are affected by the FFA. In my experience I have noticed that many FFA advisors are more devoted to their job than any other teacher I have had. There is no “free-time” for them.
