Are Video Games Bad for You? Have you ever been told that video games will rot your brain? Some would tell you it’s a misconception others would agree. Many parents will argue that videogames are bad, that they will ruin your brain and you’ll become a couch potato. But as more studies are done science is showing that may not be the case. In fact studies are showing that videogames can be very beneficial. Video Games can help with reaction speed, problem solving, and focus. The first thing that videogames can help you excel in is your reaction speed. Most video games now are fast paced and challenge you to do many things in short amounts of time. You must be ready for anything and always on your toes. Bavelier and others at the University of Rochester did a study which shows that people who played action-based video and computer games are able to make decisions 25% faster than others while maintaining accuracy. This is extremely helpful in real life in situations such as driving, on the road you need to be weary of the other cars around you and being able to react faster could mean saving a life.
