Why do people look past the alarming effects of smoking? It isn’t for the lack of knowledge and awareness; the signs are everywhere. The real impediment to avoiding disturbing and shocking consequences of smoking is the difficulty in quitting. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, also known as the CDC, brought to existence through the development of “Tips From Former Smokers,” This campaign strives to inform the dangers to society through the lives of real people in which suffer from the long term health concerns at the blame of smoking. The CDC website explains, “For every person who dies because of smoking, at least 30 people live with a serious smoking-related illness. The only proven strategy to protect yourself from harm is to never smoke, and if you do smoke or use tobacco products, to quit.” Health concerns at the cost of smoking includes cancer of the lungs, throat, head, neck and colorectal, diseases of the heart, gums, buerger disease, and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).
