I think the advancement of personalized learning is most important. I am a tutor for geometry support students at my school and I have first-hand experience in knowing just how differently each and every one of them learns. I have had students who worked well-incorporating algebra and others who worked well with shape tiles to help guide them in their worksheets. These students are by no means unintelligent, but they do have varied styles and preferences in learning that isn’t as supported in their regular classes.

As a future parent I would hate knowing that all my child is getting out of school is a bunch of right answers drilled into their head instead of having the chance to gain useful knowledge and grow. With that being said, knowing how much of a role standardized testing has taken in schools makes teaching a less desirable profession to get into. Being a teacher is all about growing the minds of students and inspiring them to gain the knowledge they need while making learning fun. All of that is impossible with they way things are now. Although schools have made many accomplishments and are far better than when they started out in the 1700s, there is still a good amount of change that still needs to happen. I am interested to see where education will go and where it will be at when I begin to teach myself.

She dishes mindsets and achievement, how do students learn these mindsets, and so on… … Dweck suggests, “Many students believe that intelligence is fixed, that each person has a certain amount, and that’s that. We call this a fixed mindset, and, as you will see, students with this mindset worry about how much of this fixed in intelligence they possess”. In the article, Dweck discovers how students’ mindsets affect their education and their achievements. Students who believed that their intelligence can expand (known as growth mindset) do better academically than children who believe the opposite (known as fixed mindset). Dweck then claims, “... we found that having children focus on the process that leads to learning (like hard work or trying new strategies) could foster a growth mindset and its benefits.” Teachers can apply this to their teachings, and further push their students in reaching higher goals.
The realm of education tends to shine a negative light on younger generations labeling them as menace to society and ultimately excluding them without fair opportunity. Every child is different; some may require more attention from teachers than others. Schools tend to forget this unique characteristic of human life once standardized testing and grading comes into the equation.
As far as I can remember, I was never really any good at school. I couldn’t concentrate on things for no more than 5 minutes at a time, I would either get discouraged or find it too easy and just give up. An author by the name of Carol Dweck wrote an article called “Brainology”. In it, Dweck describes that there are two types of mindsets: fixed and growth. Those who are afraid to fail so they never try anything new are those with a fixed mindset and the growth mindset are those who are not afraid to fail and find a new challenge, an opportunity to learn something new.

This could very well have been one of the reason they could not continue with their school or at least try to get basic education.
Fixed mindsets and growth mindsets influence people and their ability to be successful in school and in life. We all have the same ability to be successful but it depends on our motivation and hard work.

My basic principle is preparing my students to face different challenges in life, particularly if they choose to contribute to lead the community where they live. For various reasons, students take my class. Often, the course is required for their major or for a job application, e.g. for those who are future high school teachers. Others take it because they are interested in some topics, e.g. students interested in world politics enroll in international relations course. Regardless of their motivation, my objective is to ensure that students acquire knowledge and set of skills that prepare them to face various challenges in their occupation.
