(Since I plan on adopting a child in the distant future) I just wanted to let you know that I am so happy and appreciative that you are in my life. I have always wanted to adopt a child because I feel that there are so many innocent children that have been brought into shitty and unfair situations that simply need an escape. I am so glad that you have joined me and my family because you mean the world to us. This is a crazy world we live in filled with both good and bad, but never forget your own personal morals and values and what you stand for. One thing that I learned in College about feminism, and now I want to share with you, is that women are objectified and socialized to believe that their value is in their sexuality and body parts. DON’T BELIEVE THE HYPE, if a boy wants you for who you are then it should not matter how you look or what clothes you wear. If a man ever tells you that you have to change how you look to be with him, then he is not worth your time because there is someone in this world that will appreciate and love you for exactly who you are and how you look. Another thing I wanted to share with you is that young boys are socialized, at a very young age, to believe that they must assert their masculinity and obtain power through violence and inequality. Men are naturally more aggressive than men but that does not mean that women are not able to be aggressive and assertive as well. She describes a world where ambition is encouraged, abortion is available, and variety of sexual preferences is accepted. Women now have the ability to own homes and borrow money in their own name. Daughters grow up believing the world is their oyster where that they can enter it as principals and not simply guests. Women rights has come a long way since I was your age but there is still a need for more to be done. Another thing I want tell you is never forget that you are privileged in more ways than one and that you should always use that privilege to help others that are less fortunate than yourself. You have access to resources that others do not and therefore you are privileged. As you get older you will begin to identify links between your own privileged circumstances and the many injustices of this world that are placed on women around the world as a form of control. One lesson that I have always carried with me, through the years, is the golden rule of treating others as you want to be treated.
