Personal Setting Goals

Setting goals gives me something to work hard for, and once accomplished, I feel proud. One achievable, yet, challenging goal I am focusing on is to play volleyball or softball at the collegiate level. This goal serves multiple purposes: the first relates to passion; the second, character. I pronounced, at age three, to my Grandmother that “I was born to be an athlete.” Playing sports is my passion, and I desire to play competitively against others who also embrace this same passion. Along the way, I will encounter tests both physically and mentally. These tests will help me build character, and how I respond will give me insight that I can use to achieve future goals. Knowing that I possess strengths to rely on gives me confidence, and one of my primary strengths is determination. Once I set a goal for myself, I work hard to accomplish it. A secondary strength of mine is being coachable. I listen, observe, and seek feedback; therefore, I can adapt quickly to enhance my skills. My strengths will be my foundation; however, with every dream comes obstacles.
The primary challenge that I face results from a severe knee injury that has kept me from participating in any competitive sports for the last seven months, and I am still in the rebuilding phase. While I am recovering, other athletes working for the same goal are improving …show more content…

Learning from mentors, being a teammate, overcoming obstacles are all attributes that I can transfer to others, and my target audience will be young athletes. I plan on sharing my love and knowledge of the game through coaching. Specifically, I want to instill in these young athletes the desire to dream and to be individuals of high character. Instead of being the mentee, I will now be the mentor which I believe will hold even more reward than being a player. All the hard work that I put into achieving my goal will benefit me and
