Briefly describe which single activity listed in the Activity section of your Common Application represents your most meaningful commitment and why. (150 words or less) Volleyball represents my most meaningful commitment not just because I have invested so much into it, but also because it it’s a passion of mine and has been a part of my life since elementary school. The impact my coaches and teammates have had on my life has helped make me the confident and determined individual I am today. Volleyball also takes up a lot of time and there are many sacrifices that come with the sport and playing on a team. To keep up my skills, I have had to give up a lot of my free time and parts of my summer. Balancing school with practices was also a challenge, but participating in one of my passions made it worthwhile. I have persevered through difficult times and learned new lessons along the way, so there is nothing that could make this sport less meaningful to me. (148) Please tell us what you found meaningful about one of the above mentioned books, publications or cultural events. (300 words or less) The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald has become one of my favorite books because it is full of life lessons, plot twists, and love. This novel clearly shows how people can take their life and loved ones for granted without thinking twice about what they are doing. Gatsby is living in the past, and in the end it destroys him, while other characters are living recklessly without thinking about the consequences. So many of the characters live in a material world and they are rarely happy because, in their eyes, they do not have enough material gain to satisfy their appetites for luxury or attention. I found myself constantly questioning the... ... middle of paper ... ...after discovering what I do not want to major in. I had the opportunity a couple of summers ago to shadow in a Pediatric Clinic because that was originally what I thought I wanted to be, but I was actually more interested in the business associated with running the clinic. I also have a family friend who is in the business field, and he talked to me about his job and the opportunities he has been given because of the major he choose. Listening to him, I started to see myself in the business world, traveling the world and meeting new people everywhere I go. I am attracted to the business world as a whole not only because I find it interesting, but also because I can see myself waking up every day and doing something I love. Additionally, I feel that this career path will allow me to accomplish a multitude of goals, including helping people all around the world. (257)
