The other night at our Volunteer Christmas party, I introduced you to my husband Kirk to you and I committed to my husband you had met our son Kody, you referred to Kody as a “Church boy”. My husband and I both laugh, But the truth is, I could not stop thinking about why I introduced him to you, and John Bishop, and many other Elevators. It’s because who he has become and Elevation -Pastor Furtick has had 100% effect on my son and I credit GOD and Elevation for where he is today. First of all, I just want to say that I am so grateful to be a disciple; I am grateful that my wife and I are a part of Gods great kingdom now. It’s been two years since my wife and I got baptized, and since then, God has done so many great things in our lives.
After seeing though the eyes of my pastor I’ve come to realize the importance of faith and committing to one’s beliefs. Returning to church after two massive losses has helped my mother in many ways and it has also taught me as a young man how small things that I could do would turn to have a big impact on someone’s life the same way my pastor impacted my life and the life of my siblings.

This week has been yet another rather interesting one. Given my track record, it appears “interesting” has become the norm for me. There were some compelling points addressed by Willimon in his assessment of the “The Pastor as Counselor.” I was moved by one particular statement in regards to the professional loneliness often felt by the pastor, or preacher in my case. It indicated it was a “painful irony…that the minister…finds himself on the periphery, often pleading in vain for admission.”(Page 161) This statement echoed in my mind, because I often find myself succumbing to the clinches of loneliness. Feeling as if my ministerial journey is a very lonely one; one in which few could understand. But then I am reminded of the bigger picture and realize that I am on a mission, which has been prescribed by God. The loneliness I feel parallels the loneliness Willimon refers to. The feeling as if I am on the side lines anxiously waiting for someone to call me in. I always seem to be on the cusp of where the action is, but never quite being able to participate in it. But as I mentioned earlier, this is just a short lived reflection and it soon passes. I know; however, that it’s still there, lying dormant waiting to resurface at any given moment. How does this relate to my ministry? Well, in many different facets. I am doing my practicum at one church, but I am still amenable to my home church. We had our last Quarterly Conference for the Conference year and it has been almost two months since I had the opportunity to actually see most of the members who were present. I found myself being overwhelmed and accosted with words of “It’s so good to see you.” “I have been missing you!” and other such statements of kind regard....

Thank you for devoting your life to God and walking on the straight but narrow path that He has prepared for you. You truly exemplify Jesus’ instruction in Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven”. I sat down with Ryan Govig in order to interview him on his communication experience as the youth pastor of New Life Reformed Church. Even the beginning of Ryan’s educational background which launched him into his youth ministry career hinged upon his communication relations. Ryan was an average C-student majoring in business. In his spare time, he volunteered with the youth groups at New Life, but hadn’t intended to become a youth pastor himself. When I think of the word shelter, I think of a place of protection. I picture a roof over my head to protect me from a storm. I picture a room with a warm fire to protect me from the stinging cold. Throughout the past few months as Cassandra and I discerned what God had planned for the next stage in our lives we consistently prayed, “Lord, if you would have us go would you rip the doors off the hinges? Well, today I just want to share with you my heart’s story about wondering whether or not God was listening to my cry, to my prayers, and to my groaning.
Every time Chad spoke, he reminded us to remember “Who we are and Whose we are.” At first, I ignored him, God was speaking to me through Chad, but I shut him out. The band sang every night, and the worship, which once led me to praise and be joyful, reminded me of my anger. They sang about God, but this could not have been the god that put me through these trials. Later in the week, Banning spoke on ending of the Prodigal Son’s story, the son was lost, but now is found, he was welcomed home with love and open arms from his compassionate, loving father, who had been waiting for him. I knew at that moment the I needed to come home, I was not and could never be too far gone. I stayed after the band sang “Good Good Father,” and I sat with God, I felt his embrace in a way I never had before. I was able to speak with Banning, Chad, and my leader Amanda. Their words of encouragement have stuck with me, and given me the confidence to share Christ with the world. Shaver Lake changed my life and brought me home to God and to my church family. I am still not perfect, but I am loved. “Who, Whose, and Why,” has become my motto, as a reminder of Chad and Banning’s words, which came straight from God to save me. God knew those words and those exact worship songs, were exactly what my lost and broken soul needed to hear, needed to sing. I can no longer shut the church, and its people, out of my life. I have renewed faith and I am striving to grow closer to God and allow him to shine through in anything, and everything, I do. I have come back to my “Good Good Father,” and I am loved by
