Introduction
On August 13th, 2017, my best friend Tina and I will be traveling to Santiago, Chile. We wanted to plan trip before fall semester of college starts August 21st. Tina and I will be traveling by plane leaving August 3rd and returning August 19th. We chose Santiago because we wanted to explore somewhere we had never been. We saw pictures that were beautiful and found that Santiago was a safe place to visit. According to the Safe Cities Index, recently prepared by Economist, Santiago is the safest city in Latin America (travel, Chile, safety). At the same time, Chile is among South Americas most peaceful countries, being part of the ranking of countries in the region with the

The national dance is called Cueca, while there is a traditional song without a dance that is called Tonada (culture of Chile). I cannot wait to learn their songs and dances, it sounds like fun! I am looking forward trying their Chilean cuisine also. Chilean cuisine uses a variety of products due to Chile’s location and long coastline (culture of Chile). Some of their notable dishes are—Arrollado de Huaso(es), Charquican, Curanto, Pastel de Pascua (culture of Chile).I am willing to try new foods and if I really like something I may bring a recipe or two home to make when I return. Sports in Chile include soccer or Futbol as they call it. Futol is their most popular sport which appeals to both young and old (culture of Chile). Rodeo is their second most popular sport which was declared the national sport in 1962 (culture of Chile). Rodeo in Chile differs from rodeo that we know of in North America. The difference being that in Chile they have a team, called Collera, that consists of two riders, called Huasos, that ride horses around an arena, called Medialuna, trying to stop a calf (culture of Chile). The riders earn points for every time a steer is properly driven around the arena (culture of Chile). There may be a chance Tina and I will be able to see a rodeo or …show more content…
While in Chile, Tina and I will have to know the do’s and don’ts while being there. A handshake, warm hug and one kiss on the right cheek among friends is a custom (cultural etiquette). When meeting or visiting, always greet the head of household or most senior person first. (cultural etiquette). Chilean people like to be close to each other so not to back away or they may be offended (cultural etiquette). Do not hit your left palm with your right fist, it is considered a vulgar gesture (cultural etiquette). Table manners are vital and very important to know which flatware to use, for instance, forks and knives should be used for everything eaten at the table (cultural etiquette). While at the table for a meal be sure to keep both hands above the table at all times and never on your lap (cultural etiquette). Do not lick your fingers or use toothpicks, both are considered vulgar (cultural etiquette). Always arrive late for social functions, such as being 15-30 minutes late for dinner and 30 minutes late for a party is customary (cultural etiquette). When talking to people be sure to show interest in and talk about family, especially children (cultural etiquette). It is also common for men to stare at women, it is to be flattering and is harmless (cultural etiquette). Knowing some of those cultural do’s and don’ts will help us be more a part of the Chilean
is a very sports-minded country. Baseball, basketball, football, and hockey are the most watched along with many other sports. However baseball is known as “America’s favorite pastime”. In America, games are usually played within its country’s borders. If a game is played outside of the country they will call it a “world championship” or something of the like (American Behavior). The main sport for Spanish speaking countries is futból, which is also known as soccer. In Hispanic culture this sport is huge, everyone learns to play when a kid and continues to either pay or watch as an adult (Spanish Culture). Bullfighting and bicycling are also common in this culture. Hispanic cultures spreads through many different countries around Spain, therefore they would go outside country borders to play other teams for games (Understanding the Hispanic
Did you know that Peru is one of the top ten countries to visit in the world? (UNWTO) Peru has unique music and energetic dances that are fun to see. The people are friendly and charming; they would be happy to help one find their way if they need help. But, the main reason Peru appears on the top ten list is because of its unique geographical features. Some examples are the Andes Mountains, Machu Picchu and Cusco. The art and culture of the Peruvians, as well as the people themselves, and the popular places to go, are what tourists like to see in Peru.
Most people think of exotic foods when they think of foods from other countries, but that’s not necessarily true . Locals enjoy lots of foods eaten in the United States. Steak is very big in Bolivia, so there is a lot of steakhouses. Of course, Bolivians do have some signature foods and local fruits are super tasty. Fruits like apples, grapes, kiwi, pineapple, mangos, honeydew melon, watermelons, figs, grapefruit, and many more grow there. Bolivia does has some special fruits. One of these is the Acais berries, which has a remarkable reputation because of its many vitamins and minerals. The acharya berry has a festival in its honor in January. This berry is semi-acidic. Another interesting berry is everybodys’ favorite, since it makes chocolate!!!! The cacao is an ugly looking fruit that you probably would never buy if you saw it for sale and it is not normally eaten by itself. The last fruit I’ll tell you about is a kind of banana, a guineos. These bananas are not your everyday banana, it is much smaller than an average banana and is the best banana for banana bread.
Chile, itself, is very unique, with its music, literature, arts, and cuisine, distinct from all others. To talk more on Chilean food, it reflects its location. Dishes of the country encompass seafood, fruit, vegetables, and beef of the country. Cuisine is a combination of both Spanish traditional, indigenous ingredients and European styles brought to the country in earlier days. Chileans usually eat four times a day, meaning that food is of importance to
I was born in Guanajuato, Mexico in Oct, 1994 to a young couple named Jovita and Miguel. I was raised in the country side, in a small town in the big state of Guanajuato, Mexico. I am one on the three children in my family to be exact I’m the middle one in my family. I have my brother Rolando he is the older one and I have a little sister Karen. My parents don’t have so much education they barely finished middle school in Mexico. My mother drop out of middle school because at that time she had to work to help my grandparents at home. Because my grandparents had my mother and other older uncles also drop out school to start working to bring some extra money to the house. My father also drop out of middle school to star working in the ranch that my other grandparents had with Cows ,Pigs ,Chickens and the growth of corn, and wheat.
It is considered unfriendly to back up when a Mexican approaches you in conversation. You must be aware of the tone of voice you use when in Mexico. Using a quick pace or a sharp or forceful tone will make you come across unfavorably. Eye contact is not as direct or long as in the United States. Mexicans are status conscientious so what you wear or what you drive makes a clear statement about who you are in society. When attending a social event you should arrive 30 minutes late. Arriving earlier is considered rude. At small parties your host will introduce you. At large parties you may introduce yourself. When dining you should not sit until you are told where to sit and you should not eat until the hostess starts. It is polite to keep both of your hands visible while eating and to leave some food on your plate when finished. Only men are permitt...
In Costa Rica, style is very important. Working class people sometimes eat less so they are able to buy good, stylish clothing. They do this because they believe that good clothing will leave a good first impression. Therefore, they believe dress is important, especially when meeting someone for the first time. Although the dress normal in everyday life, their traditional dress is different. For women, the traditional dress is a long dress with no sleeves. It has thick, frilly ruffles hanging from the shoulders. The most popular dress colors are red, blue, and yellow, but usually any bright color will do. The bottom of the dresses are made of shiny material that flows all the way down to the woman’s ankles. Around their waist, they wear a thick, red cloth. Many women wear flowers behind their ears or wrap shawls around themselves. Men’s traditional dress is simpler. They wear a plain, solid colored top and long, solid colored pants. The top and pants are typically white, but just like the women’s dress, any bright color will do. To add some color, they also wear a thick, red cloth around their waist. As a final touch, they wear a straw hat and a red handkerchief around their neck. (Food and
Argentina’s cuisine includes many Spanish-style dishes that are influenced by Europe. Argentina’s culture is different in many ways from the United States’ traditions. Many people enjoy learning and experiencing the new culture and landscape, especially the food!
The Spanish eating, drinking and dancing culture steps up a gear (if that's possible), when there's a festival on. Every town or village has a local fiesta, at which point the locals don't just eat and drink because it's fun, they do so because it would be un-Spanish not to.
Some of the important holidays that are celebrated in Costa Rica include Saint Joseph’s Day and Dia de la Raza. Saint Joseph’s Day takes place on March 19th. People celebrate this day with fairs, Catholic masses, bullfights, and street food. Dia de la Raza is a celebration held on October 12th. It is to honor Columbus’s finding of the New World and all of the cultural influences that helped shape modern-day Latin America (Van Velzer). Traditional dishes in Costa Rica contain mostly rice, beans, chicken, fish, and different vegetables. Gallo Pinto is the most common breakfast dish. It is black beans mixed with rice, sour cream, eggs, and a fried plantain. Arroz con leche (rice with milk) is a traditional Costa Rican dessert. It is rice, sugar, cinnamon, and other ingredients cooked in milk (“Costa Rica Traditional Food”). Music is very important to Costa Rica, and depending where you are in Costa Rica, the music may be a little different. However, most people like Latin music. Some examples of Latin music are salsa, the ‘lambada’, and ‘soca.’ Costa Ricans also enjoy American and British rock (Alvarez). Soccer, which is called Futbol in Costa Rica, is a main sport for Costa Ricans. Soccer was introduced to the region by English settlers in the 20th century. Surfing, golf, rafting, and recreational fishing are some more sports in Costa Rica ("Costa Rica
Since colonial times, the Chilean culture has been a mix of Spanish colonial elements with indigenous (mostly Mapuche) culture. The Huasos of Central Chile and their folk music and dance are central to Chilean folk culture. Even though the folk traditions the Central Chile are central to Chilean cultural and national identity, Chile is both geographically and culturally diverse with both the North and the South having their own folk music and dance due to different indigenous peoples and immigrant groups settling there. Additionally, while some regions of Chile have very strong indigenous heritage, such as Araucanía Region, Easter Island, and Arica y Parinacota Region, some regions lacks considerable indigenous communities and a few other regions have noteworthy non-Spanish European immigrant
Social manners portray how an individual or person carry themselves or act in an appropriate manner. In the poem “Girl” by Jamaica Kincaid, Kincaid demonstrates a monologue relationship between a mother and her young daughter, coaching her to practice good manners through some traditional suavities. “this is how you set a table for tea, this is how you set a table for dinner; this is how you set a table for an important guest” (Kincaid). Here the mother is guiding her on the different steps of setting a table for different occasions and making certain she focused on establishing a pleasant environment for everyone at the table. Thus, enlightening her which sides on the table each utensil goes, gives her the opportunity to avoid persnickety

The European culture that has integrated into the Latin American traditions has left Argentinean residents with more of a European persuasion. Like most countries south of the equator, and Mexico, Argentina is extremely family oriented. Old traditions are still embedded into Argentina today, such as having heads of the household, families eating together, and tight knit relationships with members of the family. Honor drives the people of Argentina; it guides their way of living as well as their everyday actions. The culture as well as the people of this quaint country are somewhat romanticized around the world.
Some other cultural etiquette considerations to include would be: making sure you are always properly dressed when attending a dinner event, never under-dress, always bring a gift to an event if you are not the hostess, avoid giving
