Draft pick day, never expected this day to happen. I remember playing football for the first time high school junior year. I never thought I would even get a scholarship to play college football, because the chances are low especially being in a private school. But when I got that letter from my dream school; I knew anything was possible and that if I worked hard enough I could get in the NFL. Well, all that hard worked paid off because now I'm sittng here second round pick in the draft going to the Giants with my favorite NFL player Odell Beckham. I have loved baseball since the day I was born and if I didn't well then my father would have made me love it anyway. Although my passion to play baseball slipped away when I entered high school, I currently am engulfed in what many retired baseball players look to for comfort: Fantasy Baseball. The Fantasy Baseball season isn't your typical fantasy sport where you only set lineups once a week. It requires attention and maintenance daily, and in a 12-man league it is about much more than the five-hundred dollar 1st place reward; it is about pride and honor.
A few hours passed and it was approaching 12:00: game time. As I was getting my equipment on, all the possible things that could go wrong flashed threw my head. As I finish putting on my pads and other equipment, I heard a voice from behind me, "Just stay focused man, and play like you have been.” It was RJ, trying to help me focus and give me motivation. Walking into that dark tunnel with the light at the end is like an exhilarating wave of nerves and excitement. Approaching the end of the tunnel, all I could hear was the crowd screaming and yelling. From there on, as we ran onto the field, another person took over, and I didn't know the outcome of what was about to happen.
With seconds to spare I arrived at batting practice and began to prepare for my game. I hear coach call out my name and as I he acknowledged that I was there he told me I was pitching. My brain shifted and went into a whole new mode, I was more focused and more determined than I have ever been. This was the biggest baseball game of my career and I 'm starting on the mound. Honestly it couldn 't have turned out any better, the fate of the pin and my team lied in my hands and I loved the pressure. The pressure made me thrive and before I knew it our team was marching onto the field for the national anthem. During the singing of the national anthem I peeked into the crowd and first row down the first base side was the little boy I met on the cart and his dad sitting right next to him. This game was for that little boy, I needed to impress him. I pitched six strong innings and my team ended up winning the game. It was the most exciting game of my career and the best part was being greeted with the best pin in the tournament after such a spectacular win. The little boy ran out into the middle of the field where we shook our opponents hands and in front of everyone in the stadium handed me the only thing I cared about besides winning. I was in the best mood for the rest of the day and I rewarded myself with a nice long sleep. I could only image what the next day had to
It 's the day before my last high school varsity basketball game as a senior… Wow four years went by this fast who would have imagined this day would have came. All day I was thinking about the season ending. This game meant everything to me, it wasn 't any ordinary game. It 's a section game! Win or go home.. With it being my last high school game I wanted to close the chapter knowing I gave it my all. Practice was probably the most intense it 's ever been for me. Emotions were flaring and we were all on the grind.
Draft day. The day that will change my life forever, and I am ready. I had been a pitcher, pitching for the Villanova Wildcats, but then tragedy struck. I tore my A.C.L. after a line drive nailed my knee, and I screamed in pain. I was carried off of the field, and the trainers told me that I had tore my A.C.L. on opening day of my senior year. Today, I want to go to the big leagues, and to win the World Series with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Sports play a very important role in my life ever since I could walk. My interests in playing sports began at the age of three as my parents signed me up for soccer, flag football, basketball, and lacrosse. First grade started my competitive edge as I began to play for travel teams in various sport tournaments. This competitive edge transferred from the sports field to the classroom having teachers and coaches helping me be the best I can be. Sports have continually well-shaped and defined my character by teaching me how to accept a win from working hard, also how a loss is an opportunity to learn and fix mistakes.
A large portion of my time in high school was spent dedicated to football, where I played Quarterback. I was the starter my senior year, and grew to truly love and appreciate the game. I learned to value the hard work, dedication, and mental and physical toughness it takes to succeed on and off the field.
It was try out day, I was super nervous what if I mess up the cheer what if I drop my stunt? I went out there did everything right I was certain I had it in the bag. They walked out with the results, I think I read that paper ten times before running away crying because I didn’t make it.
The organization which I am associated with you is Robert Morris University football team. The three people I interviewed were my coaches Mike Miller who is the offensive coordinator of the offense, Scott Farison who’s the defensive coordinator of the defense, and John Banaszak who’s the head coach of the program. When interviewing the coaches I was trying to see who was more like a leader or a manager. Therefore, I asked them some questions to confirm if their coaching style was similar to a leader or manager.
“If at first you don’t succeed try , try again.” At the age of six I was starting to play football. The game was a hard hitting running and commitment. I was six years old at the time now I’m fourteen a freshman in high school a lot has changed.
It was the last season of my football career and it could not have been going better. We were winning games and were having a blast. The team was giving high fives and banging helmets together. We were a true family; growing closer than any team I had ever been with before. I was standing with my teammates as we said the same prayer before our game as we did every week. “Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.” The deep, strong voices rang throughout the room sending chills down my back. I loved it.
Sadly, my family was going through financial struggles, forcing me out of the school zone I was destined to attend. When I discussed the situation wih the high school coaches they told me they would pick me up from my new house and take me to school every day; with the condition that I’d play football for them all throughout high school. Even though this was illegal I continued to go ahead and accept the offer. My first year of high school was so exciting that it went by in the blink of an eye. Sophomore year came and the clock ticked closer and closer to when everything would change. I started in varsity as a corner back but soon would have big shoes to fill as the team’s quarterback. Not only did this require skill and hard work but the ability and qualities of a leader as well. Ultimately, playing this position helped me acquire traits that would soon be necessary for success. That year was tough for us because the majority of the team consisted of inexperienced players, however the coaches knew I would be the one to lead the
I walked into the school feeling like what is the point of living. I early that week asked someone out and got denied. I was dealing with my mom being sick in the hospital. She had sensory overload and a nervous breakdown. It just hit me all that day on how much my life is a wreck.
My first college football is a season I’d never forget. I broke so many records, I got my first college touchdown, and I met some new people and made friends that I know I’d remember forever. I graduated from Seminole high school in the spring of 2014 I was supposed to attend the College of the Redwoods in Eureka, California in the fall of 2014 but things happened so I had to go in the spring of 2015. Before I went up there I was working at Walmart trying to save money and working getting my body physically right and getting myself mentally prepared because I never been away from home so it was an experience for me going all the way across the country. This will be the first time being away from family, friends, and my son that was just born 2 weeks after I graduated high school.
