Attention is required as a main concept for basically anything we do. Paying attention is something that we practice in our daily routines whether it is at work, school or even when talking to our family members or significant others. A lot of times we hear people say that we must be focus in order to pay attention and understand, however just because you are focus it doesn’t necessary mean that you’re paying attention or understanding. I know this has happen to the most of us; we are paying attention to something but thinking about something else, this is a perfect example. We also have to take into consideration the distracters we experience in the process. Most people are not able to pay attention to more than a few items or events at a time. Our ability to focus attention varies a lot with how energetic our mind is at the time. For example someone that sleeps 8 hours and wakes up and eats breakfast and starts to study around 11am will have more energy and be more awake because they had breakfast and also slept well so this person will focus on the subject more efficiently if he or she found it interesting. I found in-attentional blindness very interesting because it talks about traffic accidents and this was our discussion this week. Performance when driving can be affected by memory task, mental arithmetic and also verbal reasoning task. When driving reality is that anything can happen at any given point.
