When a child is born into this world, their gender is automatically categorized as male or female due to the appearance of their external genitalia. However, there are cases where newborn babies are born with intersex genitalia. Because of this, there has been an ongoing debate if parents should surgically alter their intersex infants into what is considered to pass as “normal” looking female or male genitalia features. Some people may agree and think that the child will experience ostracism growing up or become confused on their gender identity if family members do not proceed to do so. Alongside with many of these risks, these surgeries are mostly given to make the outward appearance look “normal” in society’s eyes. When this happens, the parents would raise the infant as the gender it was surgically assigned to and growing up, the child will come to realize that the gender they were assigned to does not aligned with how they thought they ideally view themselves as. An example of this would have to be the infamous [burnt penis off] .But much to their dismay, nothing can be done since the surgery is nonreversible, leaving them without a choice[grow up knowing the gender they were surgically assigned to does not feel right] Because of this I think that surgery should be not be performed unless it is absolutely necessary and poses a threat to one’s
