Music of Our Time Concert
The UF College school of Music and arts hosts annual “Sound of the Season” concerts in spectacular venues. I was able to attend the annual concert that was held at Phillips Center last year. The stage is like one big open space and the lights beautify and make it brighter the instruments ranging from the piano to the set of cellos and electric guitars are positioned in every corner of the stage. It is well lit and all choir members adorn classy black tuxedo and dresses to blend with the surrounding. If the stage would have been blended with the right visual lights and the different themes showcased theatrically it would been a sight to behold since the simplicity killed it to a certain extent and at some point it sound like repetition and it loses its thrill.
A lot of people use this concert to reflect on the world war one and two as they celebrate their Christmas. It features more than three hundred students and community artists whom perform a variety of Christmas songs. Everyone was donned in colorful but classy outfits. Some of them came in groups with matching outfits. It was truly a site to behold. The thing I liked most the choir, however, was not their beautiful dresses but the way they sang in unison. I have never been able to understand fully how they do that. It must have taken several weeks to perfect their performance. Cheers to the entire students team and community musicians because they have clearly made it. This was, however, an extremely new experience for me. When I was still at home trying to decide on what to wear, I found myself trying to fit in swinging dresses to fit in with the crowd that I was now seeing. It was different kind of high for me.
