Saving Lives by The Hundreds

Some people are so passionate and devoted to something, that they will risk and sacrifice themselves for the greater good of others. Oskar Schindler was willing to sacrifice his own self for the lives of others in a way that Sydney Carton did in A Tale of Two Cities. Schindler put his life at risk in order to save 1,200 jewish prisoners in the camp of Auschwitz. The sacrifice he made improved many lives of future generations.

Auschwitz was a death and concentration for Jewish prisoners during the holocaust which took place in World War II. Adolf Hitler led the Nazi’s to try to eradicate the jewish population in Germany. Hitler used Jewish people as a scapegoat for the country's problem. Hitler also saw the Aryan race as the dominant race, making Jews a minority that could be wiped away by genocide.

During World War II, Oskar Schindler was a german spy for the Nazi party. He took this job because he wanted the money. Schindler was known as a kind, compassionate man but he was also known as a business man. As a businessman, money was one of his biggest concerns. Schindler owned enamelware and ammunitions factories in Poland. In these factories, he employed 1,200 jewish people into his factory. Schindler had to rely on Jewish relief programs to live. One group in particular, Schindlerjuden, gave Oskar Schindler financial support. This group name is “Schindler Jews” when translated to english. This group consisted of Jewish prisoners that Schindler saved. In 1963, the Israeli government named him Righteous Among The Nations, for his great sacrifice. The death of Oskar Schindler was on October 9th, 1974 in Hildesheim, Germany. He had a very honorable burial by the Jews. He was buried Mount Zion, being the only Nazi party member to be buried with this
