Title The education of children is viewed as a vital task in the United States. Almost every job in America require, at least, a High school diploma. Most people currently in the US will spend the first eighteen to twenty-five years of their lives in some educational program be it public schools, private schools, or a college. With such a large portion of their young life in education programs, what is the benefit of early education programs? Like most options, there is, what is called, an “opportunity cost.” An opportunity cost is the price, not always monetary, payed when one option is favored another. For an example; a baker has to decide to use his flower for making more cupcakes or cakes. If he chooses to make more cakes, there will be little to no cupcakes and …show more content…

The opportunity cost is how many of an item that can be produced that wont be produced to allow for production of another good. In the case of early education, the main choices are to support, or not support, early education programs. Early education programs enable the development of reasoning, language acquisition, and problem solving to take less time apposed to the children learning these traits alone (The Economics of Early Childhood Investments, 2014, p.5). Also, Early education programs allow for parents to re join the workforce earlier. These are just two examples of the immediate benefits regarding early education. The one big disadvantage to early education is cost. It is expensive to pay for teachers and the buildings to teach in. It costs more money when you factor in food for the children and supplies to help them learn.
