My undergraduate degree in Human Biology, emphasis in Nutritional Sciences, has given me a foundation of knowledge that could be expanded upon through the Clinical Dietetics master degree and supervised practice program at Grand Valley State University. The ASCEND accredited DPD program at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay fully prepares students, myself included, for a career in the Nutrition field. My professors facilitated learning while meeting the requirements of the certification with a rigorous cutting-edge curriculum. My degree focused on the Human body as a whole, while honing in on nutritional processes, advancements in nutrition research, and the various issues that future nutritional professionals may face. It was a well rounded program that encompassed all facets of the nutrition field with coursework in: community nutrition, food science, quantity food preparation, nutritional biochemistry, life cycle nutrition, and advanced nutrition and metabolism as one of the only undergraduate programs in the nation to teach upper-level concepts in nutrigenomics. I am an analytical thinker and enjoy learning about the scientific and practical use of nutrition, acknowledging that diet alone may not be enough to treat a disease but a combination of medicine and food can work wonders. In my MNT courses we had practice writing PES statements, using the Nutrition Care Process (ADIME), motivational interviewing, and reading and evaluating research articles to name a few topics.
