As a child I remember constantly requesting assistance from others whenever I needed a helping hand, and I always seemed to receive it with no resistance. As I grew older I watched as less and less people sought to help me when I was in need, and through time and experience I’ve learnt that if I ever needed a helping hand it would always remain at the end of my own arm. Although I sound a bit bitter, I’ve learned to appreciate and accept the lesson I’ve been taught and to initiate it in the process to becoming a better women. As I grow older I will continue to help myself, but I will refuse to have it hold me back from helping others. I give freely. I give with no expectations of getting anything back. I’ve become so comfortable and open with being a helping hand to anyone who seems to need it, I’ve begun volunteering in programs that require me to assist others and teach them how to understand certain concepts. After taking 3 years in nursing class, I’ve decided to partake in a nursing internship the periods I have off. I am expected to demonstrate demos such as bed making, hand washing, blood pressure etc. I enjoy working with the lower-classmen because they remind me of myself. Looking back at when I was a freshman I wish people would’ve been as attentive to me in order to really have understood the importance of what I was learning. Therefore aside from meeting the minimum requirements given by my nursing teacher, I have taken it into my own hands to explain to the students why they are learning what they are, when they will use it, and how to apply it in the real world. I am the youngest of five children, therefore I wasn’t the sibling that had the opportunity of looking after their younger sister or brother. I joined the school daycare which cares for both teacher’s kids and even the student’s kids. My job as an administrative assistant is to play with the kids, talk to them, put them to bed, help them walk, teach them to eat and even to listen to what they are being told.
