Internships provide students with opportunities to apply theoretical and basic knowledge gained in the classroom. During the field placement period, the agency supervisor becomes the primary teacher, aside from the clients, in the student's day-to-day learning. The supervisor is responsible for coordinates the student's overall experience by helping the student integrate the various pieces of the Field Internship. However, to make the placement, a positive experience supervisor need to be aware of student’s strengths, and learning needs to match assignments accordingly.

I am currently a full-time employee at Bridging Access to Care. I work in the Social Support Services Department and have held various positions within this Department including Community Follow-up Worker, Case Manager Technician, Case Manager and now Supervisor. I worked directly with the HIV/AIDS and high-risk population (intravenous drug users, men who have sex with men (MSMs), incarcerated/recently incarcerated, etc.) coordinating services based on a client-centered model to meet the needs of individuals and families of this population. I am currently the Supervisor for the AIDS Institute Case Management Program where I am responsible for overseeing the delivery of case management services that include assistance with navigating the system to obtain concrete services. These services encompass but are not limited to entitlements, referral to agencies that assist with identifying appropriate housing, referral to medical, mental health and substance use services. Social workers understand how diversity can characterize and mold someone’s experience and how it’s critical to the formation of one’s identity. The elements of diversity are acknowledged as the crossroad of various components which include; age, class, color, culture, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, immigration status, political ideology, race, religion, sex, and sexual orientation. Social workers appreciate that, someone’s life experiences may include ill-treatment, poverty, marginalization, and alienation as well as privilege, power, and acclaim as consequences of differences.
I am applying for the Masters of Social Work Program because of my dream of becoming a licensed clinical social worker. This journey began at a very young age, as my passion for people flourished. For me, childhood consisted of long summers, volunteering at nursing homes and working with friends to do constructive projects around the community. During my teenage years, I was well-known for my loving spirit and compassion for people. I was a problem solver and as well the go to person for family and friends. This passion continued throughout my teenage years, as I volunteered at the Department of Veterans Affairs, assisting disable vets. By the time I reached adulthood, my love for people and the quest to help had become my profession. While
...be pathway to autonomy by supporting a person’s entitlement to make decisions about their own health and health care (Feinsod & Wagner, 2008). It is a person’s right to know when they seek medical treatment it will be delivered with no bias or discrimination. This can be achieved by continuing AIDS education in health care facilities and to their staff. The education would also benefit society. The health care community has an ethical duty to do whatever is needed to ensure that all patients, including those with AIDS, gain from the most current treatments. Nurses have many roles in patient care. Expanding some of those roles, in order to determine the various aspects of a patient’s life, to help organize services to start/continue the most current treatment available to AIDS patients, may assist in minimizing the fear of discrimination in the clinical setting.
I plan to graduate with a bachelor's degree in dental hygiene from Indiana University South Bend. Along the way, I hope to learn valuable skills to succeed as not only a dental hygienist, but as an individual. After becoming a dental hygienist, I want to work full time in a dentist's office. My goal is to educate others about oral care along with cleaning their teeth. I feel it is important for people to be aware about oral hygiene from a young age to prevent poor oral health later in life. While I am attending IU South Bend, I will also be pursuing my interest in golf; I was presented with the opportunity to be part of the first women's golf team at the campus. I'm excited to continue my golfing career into college and to have the chance to
I am interested in obtaining my masters degree in the field of social work because I am passionate about issues of equality and fairness, and want to be in a position to help out in this area in a constructive and meaningful way. Social workers have the ability to make direct, beneficial changes in people’s lives, often the people who need it the most. It may rarely be world-changing on a macro level, but social work, when done right, can have world changing effects, for the better, on the people it touches.

I have to maintain contact with several different providers and network with those who are proven competent leaders even if that is not their job by description, it is their job by action. I network with those who get the job done and I have built a coalition of who to go to in different circumstances, sometimes, at different facilities. The central connector is the transition patient advocate. She has been at the facility thirty plus years and knows everyone and has established credibility within that organization. Moreover, there are peripheral specialist (program managers or health systems specialist) who are instrumental to organizational change. Any of the career roles involved in this process can utilize contact with program managers for specialized expertise as leaders in transition care management. Technical and policy-related expertise is garnered by the health systems

Internships are becoming the norm in today’s ever changing society. Both paid and unpaid internships allow the intern to learn about a particular field or industry, gain experience in that particular field or industry, and build a network that can be leverage for future good. These benefits combined prove to be very useful and significant to the intern because it’s a differentiator from those individuals who did not have an internship. Given the very competitive job market for recent college graduates, the many benefits of internships have caused many interns to pass up pay in return for the aforementioned benefits. Internships have become so standard in the workplace that the National Association of Colleges and Employers recently reported that 75 percent of employers prefer job candidates with relevant work experience, while more than 90 percent prefer to hire interns who have worked for their organization (Bacon, 2011). When it comes to hiring full-time employees, 42% of graduates with internships who applied for a job received an job offer compared to...
A bijou mammals with plush fur and honed claws, or cats, is one of my fundamental priority. Aside from cats, family and school is also important to me. My interests for the moment is animals rights. Having spent the better part of six summers hiking, cooking, orienteering, and practicing archery on the trails of Huddart Park, California, summer camp became a very precious time of my life. When I entered high school, I began working as a Unit Aide at my camp which meant I had the privilege to now teach young girls a whole slew of tasks such as survival skills, first aid, and knife skills. While attending Woodside Priory High School, I heard about similar activities such as archery and overnights that Mountain Camp counselors hosted. Chris Gregory encouraged me to look into the camp and see if it was something I might take interest in, and I soon discovered that it definitely captured my attention. I adore working with kids and would especially

This is a matter of pleasure for me to acknowledge my deep sense of gratitude to University Sains of Malaysia for giving me an opportunity to explore my abilities via this internship programme. Becoming a Mental Health Counselor for a patient with HIV/Aids is a position of dignity that can be often skewed or unwarranted due to the negative realm our society has placed upon the diagnosis. The main function of the HIV/Aids counselor is to be supportive of his or her infected and affected clients, to listen to their problems and to empower them to solve their problems and better their lives. These abilities can come easy for some; harder for others. I, as an HIV/Aids counselor, will embrace my future clients that seek my services. Support and empowerment should be an underlying task for any counseling profession, but particularly when working with a client who has HIV/Aids.
