INTRODUCTION
Americans today tend to believe that nursing care models around the world is under mounting pressure to improve efficiency in health care and to dominate the health care industry. For nursing care models to be successful depends on high-quality and low-cost of patient care delivery with the ultimate goal of achieving positive patient outcomes and patient satisfaction. With that said, Nursing care models provide the foundation for the delivery care to patients and families. Care delivery model consist of frameworks that describe health care organizations approach and delivery of patient care. Nurses are accountable for their own practice and are the coordinators of care. In fact, nurses drive a lot of the change in the health care industry, collaborating with other health care multidiscipline to provide safe patient care is vital. With that said, nurses will occasionally engage in delegation to ensure that safe patient care reaches the bedside. According to National Council of State Boards of Nursing “Moreover, delegation is an entry-level nursing skill required in all health care settings “ (NCSBN, 2015). Nurses have a covenant of providing safe care to patients. The care model I observe mostly being used is Total patient care /case method and functional nursing. In these model nurses work independently they are responsible for the daily planning, organizing, and performing of all patient care duties during their shift. According to the text, “Registered nurses is responsible for all the care provided to a patent for a shift” (Finkelman, 2016). Whilst, each care models has different functions that nurses and other health care multidiscipline need to be aware of in order to provide the appropritate care for each patient. With that said, as nurses we must respect and recognize that our task and obligations are intertwined with making critical decisions as it pertains to patient autonomy. “Autonomy, which focuses on an individuals ability to make decisions, requires competence and skills that focus on the nurses patient relationship” (Finkelman, 2016). While functional model nurses assign staff members certain tasks to care for patients rather than care for a specific patient. Effective delegation creates more time for the RN to perform the high value added nursing tasks, those that require judgment and critical thinking. The RN must be focused on patient population assessment, care planning and managing the delivery of care.
