There are several non-pharmacological treatment recommendation that can be made for Miranda. According to Catalá-López (2015), these interventions are based in nutritional intake, psychological factors, and behavioral modification techniques. Nutritional intake is an everyday task that can impact the signs and symptoms of ADHD. A well balanced nutritional diet is beneficial to the patient as it provides sufficient balance of minerals, vitamins, proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. The diet should eliminate foods that are prone to allergies. According to Gillies, Sinn, Lad, Leach, and Ross (2012), food that contain polyunsaturated fatty acids should be avoided. Psychological interventions include biofeedback which is designed to have the patient adjust behavior based on physiological measures. Cognitive training addresses the thought processes of ADHD patients. The thinking patterns can be altered to change the behavior to be favorable. Behavioral modification provides rewards and punishment based on the actions of the patient. This allows the patient to develop discipline for the academic setting.
