I’m sure that we all agree that poor schedule management interferes with our daily performance. I notice that many of you have a background’s in sports, so I will be talking about how the NBA schedule is created. The NBA stands for (National Basketball Association) Because of my inside with the Chicago Bulls, I heard many of the players complained about the travel schedule and the way it impacts their performance. According to the official NBA site, the schedule format is done in a specific algorithm based on the amount of games played, court availability with broadcasting and official breaks that comes with other conflicts There are a total of 30 NBA teams. These points are calculates and helps the team when it comes to long distance traveling and schedule conflicts. Each team is required to have 50 dates available for their home court that includes 4 Mondays for the ESPN broadcasting and 4 Thursdays for TNT broadcasting. This is a photo of the Golden State Warriors distance traveled last seasons. They traveled 72,032 thousand miles and to put this in perspective, the distance across the united state is 2,802 thousand mile. That means they traveled 26 times across the US. Because of this huge market, there are many conflicts when it comes with scheduling. Lets take the United Center for example: It is home to the Bulls, Blackhawks, Circus, Concerts, and many other large venues. Because we live is such a big city, it can be very challenging to schedule all the events according to every ones preference. Here is a short video on how the United Center switches form one venue to another. As I have mentioned to you, there are many components that goes into making the NBA schedule. The format is done in a specific algorithm based on the amount of games played, and by having the arena available for consecutive dates, teams will get extra points that can be applied when there are conflicts and long distance traveling.
