The Final Game I still remember waking up to the annoying beeps of my soccer ball alarm clock. The red text on the screen of the alarm read 7:30, the usual gameday wake up time. I got up and went through my morning routine. Showered, ate breakfast, brushed my teeth, and got all of my stuff ready for my game at noon. Nothing felt right at the time, mainly because I knew that this Saturday morning was the last of my 9 year soccer career. It was a decision I debated all season long, but I knew it was time to focus solely on football. I put on my soft purple jersey one last time and headed out the door, where my mom waited in the driveway in her silver Dodge Durango. Soccer was something I was truly passionate about. My mom drove me to my assigned field and pulled over when I saw my teammates. None of them knew that this would be my last game and I decided not to tell anyone so that we could just focus on what was ahead; another league championship. We were playing the Crew, a dirty team that had been our rivals for several years. The sight of their dark yellow jerseys made me sick to my stomach. Our head coach arrived soon after I did and got the team organized and doing pre-game warm-ups. About an hour later the referee blew his whistle and the game was underway. It was a blowout. We obliterated our enemy. The final score was 4-1. I didn’t score a goal but enjoyed every second I was out there. I drank one last victory gatorade with my teammates and headed home after getting ice cream at the Dairy Corner. My emotions were all over the place.
