My Goals My short term goals academically is to pass all my classes this first semester, and my short term goal professionally is to just continue with my current job of working at target. I work at target 5 days a week and about 35 hours a week. My long term goals academically are to major in criminal justice, and my long term goal professionally is to become a DEA agent. Why I Decided to go this Route I have always been interested in the criminal justice field, I was always watching the ID channel on tv and I became very interested in the way they solve these crimes and the crimes that actually occur. When I first started talking to my parents about wanting to go into the criminal justice field I had only wanted to become a detective.
When I was a little girl, I always wanted to be something that had to do with Criminal Justice. Why? Well because I use to watch a lot of those crime shows when I was younger and they always had my full attention. Plus my aunt is a sheriff so when I could I would go to work with her and I get an even closer hand on look at CSI work. So going with her made me even more interested day by day. At that moment I knew what I wanted to be when I finished high school.
Gaining an in-depth knowledge of the criminal justice system, throughout my Bachelors program has been exciting as much as an eye opener. Some of the subjects were ones that I did not expect. There were also, ones that had no idea how ignorant I was on the subject.

Now that I am in college I'm always asked “What is your major?” I always reply with a smile saying “Criminal Justice” I usually get a snare look and then they walk away. I am proud of the major I chose and now I wouldn't change it for the world. I'm proud to have both parents in law enforcement and also many friends in such a rewarding interesting career.
Goals give you something to measure yourself against and give you direction. Currently, my main goal is to graduate from East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree of science in engineering with a concentration in biomedical engineering. My anticipated time to graduation is five years with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Beyond getting my bachelor’s degree at East Carolina University, I would like to go to medical school and become a doctor focusing on prosthetics. In order to make my goals a reality, I will have to work diligently to remain on track throughout my schooling. Law enforcement is a career that is both violent and rewarding in many capacities. Justice needs to be served in law enforcement and they have a responsibility to uphold the law and serve the people in the community. Law enforcement is crucial in the world today as a global realm as life continues to be more complex and law enforcement struggles to combat many aspects of crime. In order to combat these problems and have a positive future in the criminal justice system, everyone must work together on a bigger scale.
What is something that interests someone enough that everyday when someone wakes up they would want to go out and do it? When people are in high school everyone always asks them what they want to do in life. Over the years, I have come up with an answer to this question. Ever since I was a kid I have enjoyed helping people. With this, I have decided I want to go into the law enforcement. There are many different jobs available in law enforcement career. When one goes into this career they are helping the public by getting criminals off the streets. I personally want to become a detective of some sort. There are three particular reasons why I want to be a detective they are the ability to help people while making a living, bettering the community and the fact that it is an interesting and exciting job. When someone wants to go into this career there are many things they need to know such as educational requirements, work environment, earnings, job outlook, positive and negative aspects of the career.
Criminal justice is one of the most important majors one can study due to the necessity to keep the streets safe and clean. From street cops, to state troopers all the way to criminal psychologists the criminal justice system is a very important part of modern society as it keeps us safe from murders, rapists and various other criminals. The street cops are the ones that are out on our streets protecting every citizen. It can be as simple as writing a parking ticket on a car that is illegally parked, to arresting murderers and rapist in a quiet neighborhood in the suburbs. The cops are the ones that are keeping our streets more safe for families everywhere. The main thing I want to learn about Criminal Justice is where I can go with my degree. By studying criminal justice I would like to be able to pursue my dreams of becoming a Drug enforcement agent so that I can help make neighborhoods safe and take bad people off the public streets.
My passion for Criminal Studies started back to when I was still in middle school. One of my neighbors, a well-received cancer researcher from Wayne State University, was unfortunately assaulted by a juvenile criminal one cold winter night after recovering from a car accident while calling for help. He was later discovered and transferred to the nearest hospital; however he died shortly after from his injuries due to a major loss of blood. I have chosen Criminal Justice as my intended major because of the many job careers that come with having that degree in this field of study. I chose this because my dream is to become an FBI agent and with this major I get to study sociology and psychology and also law enforcement which is really interesting. Becoming an FBI agent opens many doors for you within the government system, also GS-10 employees, earn $43,441 per year. In order for me to achieve this goal I would have to receive an four year bachelor degree from an accredited university or college. I am willing to work hard in order to accomplish this goal of mine. The Myers-Briggs Inventory was not in line with my career choices but this is not stopping me from completing everything
My interest in forensic science dates back to when I was twelve years, where I got hooked on crime shows. I remember being so amazed how they found the criminal easily even though they were fake shows. Chemistry sparked my interest in the field when I got a B with ease. I then did some research where I found interest in the jobs I could do. That is where I found a job to be a forensic science technician. There it seemed I should pursue a career in forensic science.
A Criminal Investigator is an exciting, always changing career that also helps make a difference. Criminal Investigators help make a difference in a community by assessing and solving crimes like burglaries, homicides, assaults, and other problems in communities where there is any criminal intent. Also after a crime has been committed, Investigators will follow up on leads and may testify in court (“Criminal Investigator Job Description). Some people that become criminal investigators were or also are police officers. Criminal Investigators work with many people such as, police officers, detectives, medical examiners, and photographers to solve criminal cases.
In fact, I have been passionate about criminal justice since middle school. Criminal justice gives me an indescribable feeling every time I talk or read about it. Also, I love the each crime has its own uniqueness and patterns. For example, the murder, the motives, where and how the crime happen is totally different each time. I believe that paying attention to details, understanding motives, and trying to relate to the victim will lead to a big discovery.
I have chosen to pursue a career in law enforcement for many reasons. One of the main reasons is because I believe it's extremely rewarding to have a chance every single day to keep the community and people safe. I also think it's extremely rewarding to have a chance to possibly make some differences for the better in people's lives from a young kid that is making some wrong choices to an adult that has been through alot and makes poor decisions in his or her life. I understand that not many adults would listen to advice but it's the fact that I actually have an opportunity to help them and I wouldn't be able to do that in most career choices. I decide to go back to school so I further my education in the criminal justice field. I also decide to go school because I will be the first one in my family to go and graduate collage. So as you could see this would make my family very proud. My ultimate goal for this degree is to help me get out of the correctional officer side of the field and become a patrol officer. Many police departments would like for the officers to have at least a two year college degree. So with the help of the Bethel staff and my class mates I will be able to accomplish my goals.
