My Personal Essay In my life, there have been many gifts, awards, and presents that I have received from other people, but I would say that none of them compare to the significance of the objects that I receive from my family. I have a high regard of the importance my family has on me, which is why I treasure the items that I receive from them; this esteem that I have is just built into my character.
About three years ago, I purchased a 1921 Peace Silver Dollar in a mint state sixty-four condition with the intent to use it as an investment for my future. My interest in coin collecting was first sparked when I began thinking of ways to make some money that did not require much labor. We really couldn’t do anything since we were out of town, but when I arrived at my house, I found out that a couple of my things were missing, including my prized coin. My first reaction was just shock and surprise; I guess that I was in a state of denial that I could not believe that my coin was really gone. In a way I found that coin to be beautiful not because of its rareness, but because of the era in which it was minted. Distress filled me because I had never had anything personal taken from me. This whole experience was new to me and I did not know how to deal with it. After a while, I eventually accepted the loss of my possession. However, the golden moment in all of this was when my father came to me and told me that he wanted me to have his coin collection set. I could see the pain he felt seeing me in despair, which is why he wanted me to have his coin set. I believe that this will be a moment that I will always remember because of how it has heightened my view on family. The value of the coins he gave to me did not add up to the value of the coin I had lost, but knowing that I had received these coins from him really added value to them, even if it was not
