Literary Essay It was in kindergarten that my mind was first exposed to literacy. I remember walking in waiting for the day that I would learn how to read and write my own name. When I learned my first basic words, my mind exploded with excitement. I suddenly wanted to read everything I could get my hands on. As we got further into the year we were told to cut letters out of newspapers and create a story with them in our journal. This begin my love for letters, words and literacy. As we progressed into reading and writing it was like an adventure into a new world. I could now express myself in written words, I could finally write notes and letters to my friends and family. I was so excited to learn how to write so I could do all these amazing things. I would look at my mother’s hand writing because at that age I thought everything she did was perfect and I wanted my writing to be just as good as hers. My first most vivid memory in literacy was in kindergarten when we learned the vowels. I remember when I was sitting in class, dangling my feet a few inches off the floor when my teacher announced that the letter of the day was “E”. Whenever they asked me to spell a word for them I was unsure whether they didn’t know how to spell it or if they were just testing me. I knew I had a love for words when I started completing word searches with my dad for fun. These activities not only enhanced my spelling but also expanded my vocabulary. My growing vocabulary ultimately evolved into my overall appreciation of writing. Now that I am a freshman at Lone Star college I looked forward to not only further honing my writing skills but also becoming more sound with the various forms of technology and software
