As the semester comes to an end, my first sociology class has absolutely changed my outlook towards life and our society. Professor Bostick was an inspirational instructor that really impressed me with his knowledge and passion for sociology. He truly wants his students to think outside of the box and look at our ever-changing society in an exclusively new way. My thoughts, beliefs, and opinions have defiantly been challenged after a whole semester of interesting lectures. I have gained a huge understanding about the ways in which society and culture impact my everyday life.
Before this class started, I never had the connection where I could look at issues using a sociological perspective. I never thought about other cultures and their beliefs and how different people can be around the whole world. After taking this course, it made me realize to get out of my comfort zone and appreciate different races and cultures that I am surrounded by. Once I understood how our own society behaved, I started to take use of culture relativism than ethnocentrism, and I began looking at everything in a more global perspective. Any sociology course can teach you the necessity of learning the skills of speaking, writing, and thinking, which can help you in decision-making and problem solving. You can learn about the good and bad of our society and how to appreciate cultural diversity. Sociology ends up confirming conventional wisdom and opens up new ways for us to see the pattern, the norms, and values of everyday life you see that is truly going on in our world. It makes us see the world in a different way than we would of if we had never encountered
