In this chapter, I will be talking about my life is a Catholic, and how my faith has developed over the years. My life as a Catholic is the Sacramental one, and so far I have received the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, Holy Eucharist, and Confirmation. The sacrament of baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist are the three sacraments of initiation, and because I have already received my Confirmation. I am looking forward to alter serving at my class' confirmation. Baptism is the Sacrament that brought me into the Catholic Church. I was baptized on April 3, 2010 by Fr. Jack Schuler in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. My Godmother is Lora bonstigal, and my God Father is Joseph Minah. My parents chose them because they are good friends. I prepared for the sacrament of Reconciliation with the rest of my 2nd grade class at St. Ferdinand but at that time I wasn't Catholic, so I didn't receive the sacrament. Mrs. Horton was my second grade teacher who prepared me for Reconciliation. Also when I was in third grade, I got classes by deacon named Anthony Onengia. Fr. Jack was the priest that gave me my first Reconciliation at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. I remember when I was getting my first Reconciliation, the rest of my class was in PE class. Lawrence S. Cunningham's The Catholic Faith: An Introduction is a difficult book to muster up a response to. One is tempted to quip "there it no there there,"although more accurately I would say that there is little there that inspires much more than an indifferent shrug in response. Perhaps the blame lay in the purpose of the book, which is set out first to not be "an encyclopedia of Catholic trivia" (Cunningham, 8). I was disappointed to read this, since while an explanation of the meaning of the different titles and offices in the Catholic hierarchy, or an explanation of the various vestments and ceremonies may be "trivia" to some, at least it is information. Had I spent my time with this book acquiring a knowledge of these facts, I could claim to have added something to my education, albeit maybe only some banalities, lacking in profundity. Instead, what does the book set out to be? Cunningham seeks to "provide an account, as fully as space allows, of the texture of the Catholic experience and the bases for that experience" (9). I have learned to be a little nervous on reading words like "texture" used in this way; usually the author is unintentionally trying to warn the critically-trained reader away. Doubly so with the word "experience," as in hackneyed phrases like "the African American Experience" or the "Gulf War Experience." Such writings have established that they do not wish do deal in facts, nor in reasoned argument to support their conclusions. They deal in "impressions," to complement the "textures" that they will be skimming the surface of. When choosing a religious service I was very limited on my choices so I was intrigued to go back to my roots and try the Catholic denomination. This denomination is the one that is most prevalent in my community and also in my social circle as well. Since I have actually been to a Catholic church as a child I thought I knew what to expect but I was shocked at how naive I was to the subject. My preconceived ideas and thoughts were that there would be a lot of getting down on your knees then back up again then saying your Hail Mary’s with not much depth to a service. Also growing up with a social group that was full of Catholics you would always hear of confession so that was something I was particularly dreading for the fact that I did not quite understand the concept and believe in it. This did not take place however which was a sigh of relief on my part cause I was not ready for that big of a leap from my own comfort zone.
On one hand, baptism is a sacrament that any human must have because it is a lifelong process of salvation and it is necessary for eternal salvation. Since Adam’s sin, all human is born spiritually death; therefore a newborn in spirit is necessary, in order for humans to have “spiritual eyes open” It will keep the person closest to God, because “open eyes” helps to discriminate good from bad during the person journey in life. Baptism present two parts, an outward and sensible sign, and an inward and spiritual grace implied, but baptism is not sanctification by itself. Furthermore, baptism is the Church’s external affirmation and proclamation of prevenient grace; it is an initiation and incorporation into Christ Holy church. During baptism church as a whole play an active role; first, by welcoming the new member, then after baptism, the church provides the nurture that makes possible a comprehensive and lifelong process of growing in grace. On the other hand Communion celebration by using bread and wine is a remembrance of Jesus death, and resurrection and the waiting until He comes again. The way in which bread and wine is converting into Jesus’s body and blood is a mystery. When during celebration Jesus says “for you” it connotes expiating and sacrifice meaning to liberates “us” sinners. Participate in communion
The Eucharist is an important sacrament found among many denominations of Christianity. A sacrament is a religious rite; sacramental practices vary throughout Christianity. Catholicism recognizes the seven sacraments of baptism, confirmation, the Eucharist, penance, anointing of the sick, ordination, and matrimony. The Eucharist is a source of endless debate for the Christian faith; its history is complex and has evolved over the centuries. The Roman Catholic Church’s perspective on this religious ritual differs significantly from other offshoots of Christianity.
The word enlightenment can mean different things to different people. But according to Immanuel Kant, enlightenment is when a person grows out of his or her self-imposed immaturity. He defines it by saying, “Immaturity as one 's inability to use their own understanding without the guidance of another”(Kant, 1). Having our reason instead of following the in the footsteps of people who influence us. Also, that people impose immaturity on themselves because they fear the use of their own understanding without someone else 's help. In this essay, I will argue my own immaturity that I had with the church, showing how t being brought up in the Catholic Church can inflict this kind of immaturity without knowing, with issues arising that helped me see past my own immaturity, and the transformation of breaking out into my own enlightenment.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is primarily handled by a priest (Trese 1). The process of Reconciliation may seem simple, but it takes a lot of practicing to perfect for priests. It is clear when Christ died he passed along with the power to change bread into wine, the power to forgive sin at the last supper. (Trese 1) The main mission of Christ was after all to help anyone and everyone who wanted to be saved, to do in fact just that. That is why he appointed the apostles. To ensure that his word and teachings would live eternally and not die alongside him. A priest shares the same mission that Christ had. A priest acts in the person of Christ during the mass. This role is repeated in form during their role in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
In the Catholic faith, there are seven sacraments. They are baptism, reconciliation, eucharist, confirmation, matrimony, holy orders and anointing of the sick. This year, the majority of the grade seven students are receiving the sacrament of confirmation. For confirmation, we have been asked to choose a Saint. For my Saint, I chose someone that I look up to. I chose Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton.
Father Redmon explained in our interview that each person is to join his or her voice in united faith. My observation was of people outwardly participating e.g., kneeling, crossing themselves but vocal participation was minimal or left to the choir. During my interview with Father Redmon, I mentioned my observation regarding the various responses and he emphasized the centrality of the Eucharist, saying “Worship of the Holy Trinity through the Eucharist is the purpose of the church” and it is through this that they grow both individually and as the Church.
Introduction In the Christian faith there are many beliefs and acts for the baptized Catholic to follow, such acts consist of the sacraments, for which there are seven. Many people believe that of all the Sacraments, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is one of the most complex and difficult to understand. Those who approach the Sacrament, are able to obtain pardon from God for the offenses committed against him, this enables them to be reconciled with the Church, which they wounded by their sins. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that it is called the Sacrament of Reconciliation because it “imparts to the sinner the life of God who reconciles.”
Reconciliation is the sacrament of a loving encounter with a merciful God as you have rightly stated above. Wueri in his pastoral letter to the faithful in his diocese, he asserts, “We are not left to our own devices.” For the simple reason that the effect of Adam’s sin into the world, such as death, disharmony, confusion, disruption and struggle; Jesus through the sacraments restores harmony and gives us newness of life in grace (3). Just as we consult the doctor for illness, eat food when hungry, go to school to acquire knowledge, the priest in the sacrament of penance gives us instructions and absolution to renew our souls.
Growing up, I was raised in a southern Baptist church setting. Every Sunday you were required to attend church which included going to Sunday school, first service, and second service. You were also required to be active in the church whether it be ushering or singing in the choir. For my foreign experience of worship I decided to attend a Catholic church. At first I was a bit skeptical about stepping outside of my background history of worship because I thought that attending a Catholic church may change some of my beliefs or practices. I will admit before my attendance to this Catholic Church I had negative thoughts and was determined that my paper would be only about negative experience that I had. Once I entered the church all of my negative thoughts were out of my mind. There are several different cultures in the world today. Each culture has its own different traditions and values. One of the world’s most popular cultural differences has to deal with religion. Religion is defined as “an organized system of beliefs, ceremonies, and rules used to worship a god or a group of gods” (Meriam). One popular religion is Roman Catholicism. Being a catholic means different things to different people but it usually revolves around one central theme; doing the right thing according to God. While I am not Catholic, I can certainly understand some of the values and beliefs they have.
Confirmation is is one of the three Sacraments of Christian Initiation. The other two sacraments of Christian Initiation are Baptism and the Eucharist. Confirmation completes the grace of Baptism through the outpouring of the gifts of Holy Spirit. Confirmation is a rite of initiation of not only Catholicism, but other Christian denominations too. Confirmation 's roots can be found in the New Testament, it is the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and its practice has not derived much from the Early Church practice.

Only through the words of consecration, “This is my Body… and this is my Blood”, can we truly experience the fruits of the Eucharist. This is only possible through God’s accordance with the Scriptures, Sacraments(the Eucharist in this case), minister(priest or bishop), and the people of the Church(The Body of Christ). Just like Jesus and his disciples during the Last Supper, all of the members of the Mass join in intercession in order to properly bestow power upon the Sacrament of the Eucharist.
