The world we live in today compared to 30 or 40 years ago has been able to comprehend and learn how to get along with people of different nationalities, economic status, ethnicities, religion and even those who are trying to find their gender identity to name a few. America is a melting pot of different cultures, races and ethnicities; however there are people who still seem to not be able to accept change or at least understand that being different does not give a person the right to discriminate. At the least, we should respect and try to accept these differences because that only brings us one step closer at fighting racism.

It also includes persons who have diminished access to resources or ability to compete in a market economy (Hanser 2015). There are many types of minority groups such as groups that are classified by their physical characteristics, those who have different cultural beliefs, those that follow a different faith as well, such as religion. One minority group that is common today is those of the Muslim faith. The American Muslim community has experienced quite a bit of discrimination and hatred since the attacks on September 11th, 2001 (Moore). Multiculturalism has helped globalization by allowing countries of diverse cultures to build relationships personally and economically. It has allowed our children to learn of other cultures in school and broaden their learning skills. Also, people from other cultures can bring a different or fresh point of view to the work place with new ideas or experiences. There is sometimes a negative impact to multiculturalism within a society because some people from the minority group may feel that they will lose themselves or beliefs if they assimilate into another culture. They may become fearful that they will be influenced by the dominate culture, so then they will become protective of their children and not allow them to experience that foreign
